Next Stop on Mets’ Express: The Bronx (the hottest team in baseball)
NY Times ^ | 04-23-2015 | Michelle V. Agins

A victory Friday would give the Mets a franchise-record 12-game winning streak. They have won 11 in a row five times, including in the championship seasons of 1969 and 1986. They just swept a 10-game homestand, something no team has done since the 1991 Minnesota Twins. That team also won the World Series.

It is much too early for the Mets to talk about that kind of goal, but deep down they must be thinking about it. Terry Collins, the manager, has been thinking big for months. The Mets, he insisted, would be winners — for real this time.

How rare is this? Rare enough that I seriously thought about posting it in the Religion Forum. As a Mets fan I generally view baseball season as a preparation for eventual martyrdom.

Go METS!!!

Pennants are won in September, not April. The inevitable Mets choke/collapse will happen, count on it...

The Mets will go 130-32

But some team with a 81-79 record will get hot at the right moment and win the 2nd wild card and beat the Mets in the short 5 game series and the World Series again will be between to also ran teams nobody cares about.

Thanks Bud

Before the Red Sox won the WS in 04, 07, and 13, Stephen King once fantasized about a World Series between the snakebitten Cubs and Red Sox. It would be tied, three games apiece for each team, then just before game 7...the world would end.

Red Sox-Cubs almost happened in 03 had it not been (in part) for Grady Little and Steve Bartman. (Marlins went on to defeat Yanks, with future Red Sox Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell playing for Fla.)

Well, considering the Mets are in their 29th year of rebuilding, it's about time they won a few games.
The bigger story is how the hapless Yankees have just won 6 of 7 and put a little zing into this rivalry that has become quite mundane lately.

Let's go Mets!

Aw yeeeah . . . eleven wins in a row . . . and I got to watch the last three of them on TV!

Of course, as a baseball purist I refuse to watch interleague games and believe interleague play (and the DH) should be done away with (what does the World Series mean now?). But I'll be rooting for the Mets to win the pennant regardless.

PS: There are fewer baseball games than ever on TV now. The Braves moved from TBS to the sports tier years ago, Fox has moved its games of the week to Fox Sports, WGN America has dropped the Cubs, and since having to replace cable with satellite a few years ago we no longer get Cardinals or Reds games. Before long only those who buy the whole package will be able to follow baseball at all.

I agree with you about the whole inter-league game thing. It should be done away with and the DH is strictly for candy@$$es. If they want to have a subway game between the two teams then it should be an unofficial “friendly.” Maybe they could revive the old Mayors Cup and do it during the All Star break with the proceeds going to charity.

Thirteen of their first sixteen games have been at home. Get them on the road and they’ll cool off pretty quick. Meanwhile my battlin’ Royals are on a tear.

Congrats to the Amazins’ on their hot start. The fanbase certainly deserves some excitement. RA Dickey’s CY was a few years ago now. The Nats start an all division roadtrip that includes NY, so far they have looked pretty soft.

I went to the second game played at Royals Stadium. They beat the Rangers 9-6 and john Mayberry homered. I remember Amos Otis, Cookie Rojas and Freddie Patek.
