I have to say that I am impressed that some people actually stuck it out for the long stretch.

The article just made me cry. I especially loved the part when the daughter whispered in her father’s ear that “Mom has died” and is waiting for him. She felt her Father could “let go” since he didn’t want to leave the Mother. Just a beautiful story, Kartographer.

It’s great that they got to grow old together.

i saw this happen when I was a nurse. They were in their late 80s/ The husband died and the family brought their mother it the hospital. She was incoherient, moaning and yelling. It almost seem like she was fighting to get out of her body....the family was holding off the funeral of the dad, they all believed she would die within days....she was dead the following morning. Another elderly couple went through the same thing, died 2 days after her husband....strange things happen in the hospital....

Wow, this really struck a chord with me. I was blessed with the most wonderful in-laws ever. They had been married 64 years when my father-in-law passed away. At his funeral, my mother-in-law was heard to say at his casket, I’ll see you soon, dear. None of us knew that she was concealing her own serious health problems while taking care of him in his declining days. My dear mother-in-law passed away 15 days later. God bless and keep them both.

Very beautiful story. Just enough time for his wife to powder her nose, and freshen up, and there he was!
