Switzerland has many aspects of “progressivism” and socialism, but at least - they keep it local. Decisions are made in the Cantons (which are like counties). People know their leaders and can see how decisions are being made. They have wide latitude in the Cantons over courts and administration of the government. They do NOT have distant Federal bureaucrats imposing politically-inspired decisions on them.
Wow, limited government, low taxes and an assault rifle in every closet... Who would have thought that was a recipe for happiness? Too bad our founding fathers didn’t think of that. No wait, they did!
Norway is pretty happy despite socialism and overbearing regulation.
Maybe it’s something else?

we used to have something similar — it’s called the 50 states ( or as Obama puts it — the 57 states ).
That’s all slowly going away as things are centralized in Washington DC.
