Russians face sanctions for disrespecting Canada

MOSCOW - Russia will be sanctioned after their players showed a lack of respect to Canada following a 6-1 loss in the final of the world championships in Prague, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) said on Monday.

Most of Russia's players left the ice straight after Sunday's defeat and headed for the dressing rooms without waiting for the national anthem of Canada to be played, which goes against the etiquette of the sport.

Speaking as a Penguins fan, the thing that really riles me up about this is that Crosby and Malkin were both scoring goals left and right in this WC. Where the heck was that scoring when we needed it against the Rangers, guys? Maybe if you guys were burying pucks in the net like that, you wouldn’t have been playing in the WC’s!

Didn't the 1972 USA olympic basketball team boycott the awards ceremony and refuse their silver medals?
Of course the difference is that the Russian hoopsters were literally given three opportunities to replay the closing seconds of the game to pull off the one point upset by the head of the basketball tournament (not a game official on the floor) who was sitting in the stands, a limey who was rather clueless about the rules of the game --- whereas the Russian skaters were drubbed by the Canadians.
