Wal-Mart corporate spokesman Brian Nick said the reason West Morgan High graduate Aaron Browder was not able to purchase his senior class ring with a generic Rebels mascot is because design features included the Confederate flag in the background and foreground.

The nickname for West Morgan's athletic teams is Rebels.

Time to rename them the conformist and issue rings with a white flag. No wait that would be racist, better make it a rainbow flag.

its fascinating how WalMart seems to ‘step in’ all these silly ‘cultural issues’

is this just because WM is such a large and successful company (so that it is almost everywhere in our society anyway)
or is there something special within the WM company or corporate culture that tends to lead it into conter-productive and trivial ‘cultural’ conflicts such as this?

just curious

A couple of weeks ago the Confederate flag was okay and they would have made the ring, but now they can't? What kind of weak-kneed, lily-livered, woosie corporations do we have in the is country any how? No backbone to make their own decisions? They have to have the liberals run their company policies? Disgusting.

They all cave-in and buckle-under to the slightest whiff of the Left's cultural Marxist politically correct pronouncements and mandates and scramble to get on the Left's totalitarian band wagon as soon as possible, customers be damned. I thought the Left hated Walmart? I'll bet the majority of their customers are conservatives and not Birkenstock-wearing libs. They've done it with gay marriage and bashing Christians, they are doing it right now to Donald Trump for speaking the truth about the problems some Mexican illegals bring with them. It is no longer acceptable to have your own opinion in this country if your'e not marching lock-step with the radical socialist liberals totalitarian viewpoint.

The problem we have in this country is not the Confederate flag, but these companies that take their marching orders from the liberal Left.

The unspoken secret is most of these billionaires and company CEO’s are crony capitalists/socialists. They despise the free market and use the gov to kill the upstart competition.

Could be they worry about who's going to buy their stock shares and loan them money. They may have their hand in other businesses, too. And they are all over the world. So the people who actually shop there are only one group the company has to worry about -- and maybe not the most worrisome. If you shop there because it's cheap, you may go on shopping there even if they adopt some policy you don't like, but other organized groups will make trouble if they want to.

…every soldier’s grave made during our unfortunate civil war [sic] is a tribute to American valor… And the time has now come… when in the spirit of fraternity we should share in the care of the graves of the Confederate soldiers…The cordial feeling now happily existing between the North and South prompts this gracious act and if it needed further justification it is found in the gallant loyalty to the Union and the flag so conspicuously shown in the year just passed by the sons and grandsons of those heroic dead.”

-President William McKinley

Following congressional acts gave Confederate civil war veterans and war dead full status as American soldiers afforded the same access to benefits and honors as Union civil war veterans and dead. Any rational person would have to conclude that the Confederate battle flag would gain at least some protection due to the status of the men who fought under it.

Confederate Soldiers – American Veterans by Act of Congress

Even today the the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War officially support the display of the Confederate battle flag and even actively engage in placing it on the graves of confederate soldiers.

there remains the curious fact that sometimes these big companies do stupid things (especially from a customer relations or public relations or marketing perspective)...

here all WM had to do was make the kid his ring, nobody would have had any occasion to object... and WM would have had a presumably happy customer

instead someone at WM decided to refuse the customer’s business...... and a lot of other people are left wondering whether to shop at WM or take their money elsewhere

all this when no controversy was necessary in the first place

oh well, Sam Walton is long deceased so...often successful firms go downhill after their founders leave

The funny thing is the people Walmart is trying to placate will continue to shop there no matter what.
