Be absolutely sure to check your meat counter for their bacon; in my region it is almost always under $6.00 a pound for their thick cut bacon; you can get as much or as little as you need, and since many bacon packages have skimped into the 12 ounce range, it's usually cheaper (and in my opinion, much better) than the pre-packaged bacon.

And of course, while you're getting the bacon, ask if there's any upcoming deals or specials - nothing beats being friendly with the meat counter staff.

(Bonus tip: Most meat counter sliced sandwich meats are cheaper than pre-packaged, especially when on sale. In this case, it's 8oz and 9oz packages for most sandwich meats.)

I've tried their bacon. It's not to my taste. Walmart is cheaper, and usually has the Oscar Meyer butcher thick-cut for under $6.00. I won't spend any more than that.

I get my regular meat from the butcher department at Price Chopper here. They're very nice and accommodating. They're shaved steak is excellent, as are their Angus beef standing rib roasts.

We have a small market nearby with an old fashioned meat counter. They’re always busy and the store survives on it. They only sell the best meat.
They have Platter Bacon for $5.99 lb. thickest I’ve seen And oh soooooo good.
