Trump's Waterloo? Don't Count On It

When Donald Trump derided John McCain’s war hero status on Saturday and set off a media firestorm, many in the Republican establishment thought he had finally self-destructed. They can keep dreaming.

Trump’s partisans are disappointed. But they’re disappointed in McCain, the media and the party establishment, not Trump.

. Interviews with his supporters in New Hampshire and the first drips of polling data suggest the mogul’s core constituency has no intention of abandoning him over the dust-up.

“I don’t like McCain anyways, to be perfectly frank with you,” said Jerry DeLemus, a Marine Corps veteran and Republican activist in New Hampshire. DeLemus said he was a supporter of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz before formally signing on to support Trump on Sunday.

He said Trump’s comments the day before — “He’s not a war hero,” said Trump of McCain at a gathering of religious conservatives in Iowa, adding, “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured” — do nothing to shake his support and that it’s McCain who should have to answer for his treatment of veterans.

This McCain dust up doesn’t seem to be hurting the Donald in the early primary states.

If Trump doesn’t fade away but keeps rising, look for Hussein to start citizenship proceedings wholesale.

More like the opening moves of Austerlitz, with GOP-E as the Russian Army and the MSM as ersatz Austrians.

WBT Charlotte, NC led-off it’s 12:30 PM news break during the Rush Limbaugh Show with the announcement of Kasich’s entry.

And then this quote from Lindsey Graham:

“Donald Trump is the world’s biggest jackass.” The announcer laughed as he said it.

That’s what Trump is up against folks. Full-court press from the Media/Government/GOPe Complex. I have never seen anything like it. It’s worse than even the Crush Palin campaign of 2007-08.

I was thinking battle of the bulge with tump as the americans and the media minions as the germans demanding surrender.

And the harder they push the harder he pushes back! And Americans are loving it. I know folks of all stripes who are fascinated by Trump and who will probably support him if he ends up running.

BTW, I saw yesterday that he wouldn't promise not to run as a third party candidate. That's smart of him. In a Bush v Hillary race I think he'd win as a 3rd party guy. If he didn't get shot first, God forbid...but a very real possibility when you get in the establishment's way.

i phrased that poorly. I should have said if he's still running at the end. It's a long time until the first primary ballots are cast.

The GOP want’s Trump out before the debates at ANY cost. They are twisting in the wind because they don’t have a clue what Trump will say and they can’t prepare for it.

Americans took a lot more casualties than the Germans at the Bulge, despite attaining a key strategic victory, which didn’t fit the point I was trying to make. I like Austerlitz because it keeps with the Napolean theme, and is the classic example of the stronger force (media/GOP-E) taking the bait set by a master, and despite having the best ground, troops, and numbers inflicting only insignificant casualties on their adversary, while suffering the destruction of their army in the process.

I hope this bull in the china shop breaks every dang thing in it. Keep on snorting, Donald. Flush ‘em out, call ‘em out. The next election surely will be the make-or-break for this constitutional republic (as to whatever is left of it).

It’s so refreshing to know there’s at least one man left in America that doesn’t squat to pee.

The media’s and the left’s (sorry, I repeat myself) playbook has totally backfired on them.

The left has these two plays in that book that in the past have worked like a charm. They both revolve around shutting up the candidate.

1. If a republican/conservative says something that makes sense in a coherent and reasoned way, where most sane people would agree with, then absolutely do not cover it. This effectively shuts them up since nobody will hear what they have to say.

2. If a republican/conservative says something that the media THINKS that it’s totally over the top, (but that the public strongly agrees with), and that they think they can smear him with it, then it becomes 24/7 coverage of outrage. The idea is to force the “culprit” to declare mea culpa, and apologize profusely. Though the people may have backed him when he first made the statements, once he apologizes they will abandon him, and he’ll disappear into a political gulag.

They figured Trump was the perfect candidate for the #2 play, hence the 24/7 coverage he’s received. What they miscalculated was the character of Trump - like him or not he doesn’t cave and he didn’t here either. This totally unexpected move by Trump energized the public, who also was expecting a cave. Instead, they rallyed to his support and sent the media/left scurrying into a controlled retreat.

Of course, the left is not one to cave easily either, they’re weaponized to the max. They’re regrouping and checking their playbook for a counter attack.

As long as Trump keeps throwing stink bombs at issues in a way that conservatives (which is the majority of the public) like, and as long as he doubles down when challenged by the media, he will continue to be heard and continue to rise in the polls and vanquish the other republicans running.

Witting or unwittingly he may have found the formula to beat the left, the media and the establishment.

As he has said... “Show me a guy without ego and I’ll show you a loser”

So, to paraphrase that song...”Maybe it’s just an egomaniac we’re looking for”.

Great points, the two plays they have typically used won’t work on Trump. I think they would like to just ignore him at this point, but due to his celebrity status they just can’t resist. I’m sure they will regroup and try something else; nice entertainment to watch the MSM get punked for a change.

As someone said on another board, “If Americans cared so much about McCain’s “war hero” status, he would have been elected in 2008...”
