I’m in Illinois as was stumped by one on my lake. Turned out to be a bowfin.

I’m glad you learned everything you ever needed know by looking at pictures online. Never had to ask a question. Born all-knowing. Congratulations.

A sober observation:
I was on a charter boat off San Pedro fishing for chocolate fish, ling cod, etc. and some SOB standing right next to me hauls in a small shark!
Flopping around, snapping its teeth, trying to bite ...

So if it has rows of sharp teeth, eyes like black buttons and acts like it wants to bite you, it may be a shark.
You would be smart sticking to frozen fish sticks. NO charge.

Looks like a warmouth, similar to a northern rock bass, see post#5

How difficult is a web search for “Florida freshwater fish chart”?

And how difficult IT IS for you to be a decent human being.

Was thinking the same but the markings and color looked somewhat different. But it could be. Thanks!

Seems too big though.

And we wonder why FreeRepublic has trouble raising funds? It has become very unfriendly since the debate. Was told to go to DU and leave Freerepublic just for asking a question.

Was also thinking the shape was more long than round.

I once strangled a ling from a party boat on Sheep’ Head Bay. Pretty much standing shoulder to shoulder when I hauled it in. Somehow it had wrapped itself up in the line. All the way back, I heard, “How are they hanging good buddy” haw haw haw.

If you’re going to be an ass, why bother posting?

There's a lot of that going around these days on FR, unfortunately.

The definitive spines on the dorsal seem to rule that out? Bowfins look to have a more flexible fin.
