Looking again at the chart, if colors are true, it doesn’t seem to match the war mouth on that basis. I understand that may be the least likely discriminator. If its a rock bass then the species may have somehow extended its range. I’d be tempted to get another one and ask the DNR to identify it for you.

I’m going again today and will do that. Thanks

If you would, either private mail me or ping me with the answer. You never know what might happen. I had a friend who is an avid bird watcher and privately studied loons here in northern Minnesota. He canoed in Winibigoshish Lake and discovered literally thousands of them congregated in a bay just weeks before they migrated. No one knew that they flocked before migration and he published the results of his counts in an ornithological journal.
IF that's a rock bass, you may be the first to identify them in your region. Long shot, sure. But just maybe ...

It has lots of names.
Rock bass, google eye, warmouth, Ozark bass, stumpknocker.
In the spring they are more of a green color but thru the summer they turn darker.
They have a tender mouth. They hit hard but don't fight much once they are hooked.

Wanna see your fish.
Don’t you have a place on your PC where you store your photos? Then try http://tinypic.com/
Easy.

And we wonder why FreeRepublic has trouble raising funds? It has become very unfriendly since the debate.

That is a Warmouth Perch. I have them in my stock tank’s, some call them a Goggle Eye Perch.

Thanks. It didn’t have much fight when hooked, that’s true.

Another thing that you can do, now that you have some names, is do a google image of rock bass or goggle eye and find lots of varying pictures to compare to.

Looks like Crappie. Nice sized, too.
