Legal gun ownership and carry create a strong bias to push people to become more responsible, and to support the rule of law.
Nothing says “Responsible Citizen” like being legally armed.
I don’t want to sound like a typical Texas braggart to you folks in the North, but given we host a lot of the illegal traffic through Mexico, our crime rates have been kept pretty low considering, because citizens here are armed. Police could never handle what we deal with in Texas alone.
Not only do we have to deal with a steady, unchecked stream of illegals from Mexican border these days, we had to deal with New Orleans super high crime inner city moving to Houston after Katrina as requested by Bush and hosted by Perry. That mess has cleared up pretty much now. But Houston is still a sanctuary city mess run by an extremist dyke.
It is worse right now than ever before with the border, but the bad guys will leave for California or end up dead sooner or later. I noticed the Mexican drug cartels have set up shop in Arizona which seems to be fine with the Feds (no surprise given the ATF was caught arming them, with no consequence). Texas Governors, who are known to call in the National Guard, and the Texas Rangers are a nasty bunch to deal with, too.
We have some long time Muslims who settled here due to the oil business. We also have Muslim war like training camps. It will be interesting times when they kick into gear...if they do. It will be them against Texas. It would be a ungodly mess of war on all sides. If that happens it would be best to leave your burka at home and move to California, pronto.
