Leather football helmets are a good idea, by the way. They were good enough for our tankers in WWII. Israeli armor used them in the Six Day War.
Football at one time was played not by armored behemoths but by skilled tacticians.

Perhaps the size/strength modern-day players has exceeded the size that they can really protect themselves from injury.And in turn making quarterback an almost impossible position to play.
