Dogs From 'Meat Farm' in South Korea Arrive in San Diego for Adoption (Over 100)

enty-nine dogs that were once part of a "meat farm" in South Korea arrived Thursday in San Diego for possible adoption, part of a Humane Society program that hopes to end the Korean tradition of eating dog meat.

"The dog meat trade is one of the most horrific forms of cruelty," said Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of the San Diego Humane Society.

The Humane Society International has taken possession of more than 100 dogs from a South Korean farmer in recent months, paying the farmer to transition to other crops, according to news coverage in Korea.

The dogs have been sent to Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals chapters in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento.

The 29 dogs -- mostly mastiffs, Jindo-mixes and Chihuahuas -- arrived Wednesday night on a 14-hour flight from South Korea to San Francisco International Airport.

A "special response team" from the San Diego Humane Society drove the dogs to San Diego, where they will be evaluated by veterinarians before being placed for adoption.

paying the farmer to transition to other crops

Yeah, that will work. New breeders won't pop up with their collective hands out.

Which social custom?

Of all the animals out there, none have bonded with humans like dogs. The connection with dogs and human eyes to dog eyes, allowed humans to defeat another species, neanderthals.

I thought we valued diversity and multiculturalism? And yes, I’ve probably eaten it once or twice, having been stationed there numerous times.

You're talking like an American

Why haven't we gone and provided an alternative to the goat humpers for hacking off human heads ?

Dog actually tastes good.

No, I won't duck ... I was invited out with some KATUSA's in 1966 to a Korean restaurant and it was ordered for me and I ate it.

Never (knowingly) ate dog but I did have ‘chango’ in Panama when I attended JWCS.

Monkey was actually damned good...once I figured out what it was.

I had some dog dumplings at a Restaurant in Shanghai. Didn’t know what they were at first.

My first assignment at I Corps in Uijongbu, we didn’t have KATUSAs, rather ROK Army troops from 2 star generals down to buck privates, even a ROKA honor guard of over 6 foot tall soldiers.
