Ford was 76 years old, had been ill for quite some time

Frankie Ford, a rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm and blues singer whose 1959 hit “Sea Cruise” brought him international fame when he was 19, is dead at the age of 76.

Ford died Monday of natural causes, according to the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, coroner’s office.

“He was a great guy. He had the best voice in rock and roll,” said Mike Shepherd, a friend of Ford’s and head of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, which inducted Ford in 2010.

Herman’s Hermits had a cover that was quite true to the original.

I was just thinking about this guy three days ago.

Scary part is, that every time I recall some obscure elderly celebrity, they croak within just a few weeks or so. This has happened at least seven times over the last ten years.

I hope I'm not some harbinger of death, killing former celebrities with mind bullets.

I'm sure I've mentioned this on FR before...

Also sang a few other good records. Here is one of my favorites:

He is backed up on this record by Huey “Piano” Smith, famous for his own hits like “Rockin’ Pneumonia & the Boogie Woogie Flu” and “Don’t You Just Know It”. The piano riff is a New Orleans-style variation on “Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie”, the original boogie woogie record from the 1920s.

Every time someone post a youtube video of a deceased artist I always find myself winding up viewing Dawn of the Dead movie. I have no clue how I got there but I did. LOL

For some time I thought the Sea Cruise was sung by Bobby Darin, whose voice seemed similar to Ford’s. Darin did get into the water with his rock ‘n roll hit, Splish Splash.

“Roberta” was on the flip side of “Sea Cruise,” and I think it was the better recording.

I remember the actress Jill Claburgh doing that song on one of the first Saturday Night Live shows.

One of my all time favorite songs is “Beyond the Sea” by Bobby Darin - another “water song”. I never tire hearing that song - a jazzy/pop classic.
