Unexpected information about Earth's climate history from Yellow River sediment
Science Daily ^ | 10/9/2015 | Uppsala University

Posted on 10/09/2015 10:35:39 AM PDT by JimSEA

By meticulously examining sediments in China's Yellow River, a Swedish-Chinese research group are showing that the history of tectonic and climate evolution on Earth may need to be rewritten.

(Snip)

Weathering of this eroded material also constitutes a further mechanism that may explain the reduced levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide at the beginning of the Ice Age. The researchers' next step will be to compare terrestrial and marine records of erosion to gauge how far sediment storage on land has impacted the marine record.

A erosion based CO2 sink in South Asia may have brought on the Ice Ages. It's not a new idea but is supported by this study of an unexpectedly large layer of eroded material. Too little CO2 in the may be a very bad thing.

Naturally, the Warmists know the exact correct amount - too much and the planet overheats becoming Venus-like with a sulfuric acid atmosphere, temperatures soaring to 800F; too little and in 100 years where you live will be under 2 kilometers of ice.

Achieving this delicate balance after runaway fossil fuel use by greedy conservatives, Federalists, and sundry dictators, is why the Warmists are so much smarter than most people, certainly smarter that the average FRer.

Studies show the average bear has some amount smarts, but then it varies according to the seasons - seasonal bear smart studies are currently underway here on FR - check with the zot machine to see which liberal warmist is on line and signed in to FR; once the necessary amount of warmists are tallied, then the real work can begin to be measured against the baseline smart table previously established by various FRers.

Obligatory Warning Notice:
Careless rousing of lounging FRers from dreams of kitties and various assorted items found near the zot machine can be dangerous.

IOW, bull****. The 'scientists' working up this crap must be bent out of shape regarding the Chinese regime's rejection of the entire global warming hoax, and want to force conformity. They'll fail. The degree of their failure will be measured in spent casings.

CO2 does not drive warming. Warming drives CO2.

The idea of “Tipping Points” is not applicable to climate science. As if it applies to anything. Climate change is incremental and CO2 is one of many factors — Water vapor is a far stronger warming agent. We are in a warming time that can easily change to cooling. It depends on multiple factors that are not fully understood. However a runaway climate change isn’t in the cards.

It reminds me of the old tale of the 7 blind men trying to describe an elephant by touching it. Each one could only perceive a small data set of the whole. One said the tail was a rope, another called the leg a pillar, the trunk was called a snake, etc., etc.

Most of today's AGW alarmists are doing the same thing: trying to describe an incredibly chaotic and dynamic system with far too little factual information and the inability to accurately interpret what they do have (assuming scientific accuracy, not New World Order politics, is their actual goal.

I'm a Milankovich Cycle guy who understands there's undoubtedly far greater complexity than that involved. I think the Yellow River info is interesting but interpreting it will wait until we're much better able to see the whole elephant.

I was thinking the same thing.

When attending college forty years ago, I took a year long course in Geology. Looking at topographical maps is something I consider fun and in fact used to use those kinds of maps and a compass while backpacking rather than using a trail. Never, ever got lost, either. But this topography seems bizarre.

Only problem with this theory is the ice core data from Antarctica and Greenland show that at least for the last 400,000 years (Antarctic) CO2 has been a lagging indicator, lagging temperature change, not leading it.
