Two city workers exploited flaws in the city’s welfare system to swipe $2.1 million worth of food stamps and rental subsidies — and then spent $120,000 on Red Bull, authorities said Tuesday.

Petronila Peralta of The Bronx and Cherrise Watson-Jackson of Queens — both longtime employees of the Human Resources Administration — were charged with fraud, along with 11 co-conspirators who allegedly helped carry out the scam between 2008 and 2013.

It just shows how dedicated and over-worked our local government workers are. They have so much work to do, with so few resources, they must steal Red-Bull to have enough energy to do their jobs. When are we going to give our heroic government employees enough resources to do their jobs properly?

The real tragedy is that you can use taxpayer money, in the form of food stamp/EBT cards, to purchase an energy drink or a pretty much any other junk food you wanted.

The say the program is supposed to meet the basic nutritional needs of the impoverished. Huh?
