So, the Big Speech is over. Obama spoke from the Oval Office about the domestic Islamic terrorism that occurred in San Bernadino a few days ago.
Many gun owners, myself included, dreaded this speech as the possible introduction point for unconstitutional Executive Orders on firearms. The Executive Order (excuse me, 'Executive Action') floated most heavily was to bring private firearms sales under the Brady Act. The announcement did not materialize.
One of two gun control urgings that did appear, however, is something I deem the "No-Fly-No-Buy List". In this effort, the present "No-Fly List" would be used to also deny the purchase of firearms to those people who are on that list.
Let us discuss the "No-Fly List". While, at first glance, it appears to be a useful tool to prevent terrorists from flying, it has a few characteristics that make it very Soviet-like:
This is an Un-Citizen-List. Placement on this list makes you an Un-Person, at least in regards to your ability to travel freely. That is not acceptable in a society like ours.
Now, along comes OTrauma, who pitches the idea -- not to REFORM this legal tool -- but to EXPAND it to include firearms purchases.
There is no due process. The present list must be reformed, not, instead, have its function expanded!
It is important that we do not let the "No-Fly List" become the "No-Fly-No-Buy List."

There is no justification for expanding the power of the no-fly list.
The terrorists were not on it.
Obama is full of it, on this subject. Completely so.
Come to think of it...this power grab may result in the demise of the no fly list.

Yeah, I sucked it up and watched the lyin’ king spurt his numerous lies. Had a hard time keepin’ the chili down. His line of crap was so full of bovine excrement that I thought I had smell-0-vision. Could you hear my eyes rolling? Then of course he brought up the “no fly/no buy” list. So, who makes the list up? Any process to try to get off if you’re on? Arbitrary and capricious BS. Of course not to mention that it will have nearly ZERO effect on terrorist activities. Still got a year+ to go. Sigh.........
You nailed it Laz. Gun owners will be wearing virtual Scarlet letters or we will be branded as “Jews” by the Nazis.
In short...ANYONE can be placed on the list TONIGHT without reasonable cause or explanation. TYRANNY.
This will be defeated in court. NONE of the muslim terrorists were on the no-fly list that had possession of firearms.
He cannot deny constitutional rights by administrative declaration.
We are now ALL on the no-fly-no-buy list.
I'd find the gaseous emissions of a cow more authentic than any utterance of our Community Organizer-In-Chief.
I could see a growing black market if this were to occur. People respect that felons, and violent criminals shouldn’t have firearms. However, people are sympathetic to people being put on certain lists for political reasons. And you know that the government would use such a law to deny political opponents the right to keep and bear arms.
There are many people on the no-fly list, which is thrown together with sometimes faulty information and arbitrary decision making.
To deny someone their 2nd Amendment right (or any other right) without DUE PROCESS is unconstitutional.
I don’t want terrorists getting weapons either.
But if they are US citizens, first they have to be proved to be terrorists.
Otherwise they could just put every NRA member on the list and say, “you are extremists. Extremists post the risk of terrorism. We’re putting you on the no-fly list and you can no longer purchase firearms.”
Here’s a better solution:
CLOSE THE DAMN BORDERS. NOW.
Shut down all immigration, illegal and legal until we get our house in order. Until the people here learn to become Americans. And until we are willing to defend not only American values but Western Civilization, which is what is under attack.
Great points! As always, Obama intends to destroy freedom. Any such restrictions should be on Muslims or non-citizens.

Lots of other ideas have also been floated.
We need to destroy each of their anti 2nd Amendment attempts.

I also wanted to go on record coining the phrase the "No-Fly-No-Buy List".
