Ad blocking is something of a contentious issue, but it's one that has been brought to prominence in 2015. The adblockalypse arrived this year as the debate about whether disabling ad blockers was preferable to paying for content.
Adblock Plus -- one of the best known ad blockers out there -- recently updated its acceptable ads policy which gives people the option of permitting certain ads to appear in their browser. But a new deal struck with ASUS means that anyone buying a phone or tablet from the Taiwanese company in 2016 will find that ad blocking is baked in and enabled by default.
In an interview with Motherboard, AdBlock Plus’s cofounder and CEO, Till Faida revealed that his company was working with ASUS to bring ad blocking to the hardware manufacturer's stock browser. More than this, ad blocking will be switched on by default, undoubtedly to chagrin of advertisers the world over.
As Motherboard points out, the ASUS browser has a relatively small user base (around 15 million), but it is the potential impact which is important. Should other companies start to follow suit, it's a movement that could very quickly gain momentum and could send shockwaves through the advertising and media sectors.
Faida said:
We're extremely happy to team up with Asus, the first major hardware manufacturer to integrate ad blocking into their mobile devices. This is another call for innovation in the ad industry -- a call getting louder by the day.
With the discussion about how online content should be paid for continuing to rumble on, it will be interesting to see how many -- if any -- other companies follow ASUS's lead.
this is a good post. I just bought a new computer to hopefully help resolve the pop issues I was having. It didn’t help. I just uninstalled the anti-virus that came with it and installed kaspersky instead. It didn’t help. I tried one of the supposedly effective ad blockers. it didn’t work. It’s like this machine was built to deliver pop-ups to me. What is everyone else using?
Firefox with Ad Block Plus and Ghostery will solve all your ad problems.
Adblock Plus (not to be confused with AdBlock, a different but similar extension) and Ghostery, added to whatever browser you prefer.
Some use NoScript as well, among others depending upon your preference, but those two are the major ones.
Note: make certain you install both, not simply one or the other.
I will give that a try when I get to my home PC.
If the site has googleads just shop for bikinis before visiting.
What next, you cannot change the channel or mute the volume during ads on your digital tv?
It would not surprise Me if this was a new “feature” introduced at some future date.
But that is why addons such as Ghostery and Adblock Plus were created. I am certain some clever individual will produce an addon to combat such difficulties quite soon after they appear.

Firefox, Ad Block Plus and Ghostery solve about 99% of the problem for me, Ad Muncher also does a great job.
So what about my recent purchases of Asus 990FX Killer R. 2.0 motherboards --- are they going to get a bios upgrade to block all ads? I paid enough for the damn' things, they should!
There are DVDs that lock the control to prevent the owner from skipping over the ads and trailers at the beginning of a DVD he’s purchased.
DVD De-Crypt will help with that. For the ‘doze platform.
Also, if you run Linux, you can rip the DVD and edit the Menu file to play just the movie. Then you can simply delete the ad-ver-tise-ments and unnecessary trailers and whatnots.
It does not make it all that much a smaller file, once you consider the size of a typical DVD, but the ability to run just the movie all by itself is such a relief the next time you wish to watch the movie! :)
