HYANNIS — A mother and daughter were arrested Thursday night after a man reported he had been stabbed several times following an altercation at a Christmas Eve party, Barnstable police said.

Leah Sylvia, 20, and her mother, Roxanne Sylvia, 46, were arrested after the daughter allegedly stabbed the 46-year old man, and Roxanne Sylvia attempted to bar police from entering their home at 17 Washington Avenue Extension, said Sgt. Sean Sweeney.

Roxanne Sylvia told police her daughter, who police had already seen inside, wasn’t at the home and wouldn’t let them in, Sweeney said.

Police obtained a warrant for the home and the daughter was taken into custody without incident, but the mother remained combative and struck an officer with a frying pan. Sweeney said. The officer was not hurt.

Now I have the urge to listen to Dr. Hook's ditty from the 1970s "Sylvia's Mother."

Maybe an enterprising Freeper can change the lyrics with "struck an officer with a frying pan."

I’m guessing there’s a lot more to this story than meets the eye.

Well ... if any Kennedys were involved, you probably won’t hear about it.

The family that stabs together, stays together (in jail).

I saw a snap of the house on Fox25 Boston. This is no seaside "compound", it's a two bedroom summer cottage on a slab, occupied year round. Parts of Cape Cod have gone from summer resort to tacky white trash suburb. Cape Cod used to be somewhat remote, with few amenities such as grocery stories and shopping malls. Seaside property and nice homes are still pricey, but a lot of summer cottages are now occupied year round by the folks who forgot to go home from vacation. A lot of alcoholism, unemployed (living off parents' estates?), and seasonally employed. And this ain't the season.

That would be an assault fry pan. We really need to ban these. There is no reason anyone needs to own a fry pan more than 10" in diameter.

I always wanted to take a frying pan to Dr. Hook when it came on.

Sylvia’s mother says, ‘Sylvia’s busy
Too busy to come to the phone’
Sylvia’s mother says, ‘Sylvia’s tryin’
To start a new life of her own’
Sylvia’s mother says, ‘Sylvia’s happy
So why don’t you leave her alone?’

And the operator says, ‘40 cents more for the next 3 minutes’
Please Mrs. Avery, I just gotta talk to her
I’ll only keep her a while
Please Mrs. Avery, I just wanna tell ‘er goodbye

Sylvia’s mother says, ‘Sylvia’s packin’
She’s gonna be leavin’ today’
Sylvia’s mother says, ‘Sylvia’s marryin’
A fella down Galveston way’
Sylvia’s mother says, ‘Please don’t say nothin’
To make her start cryin’ and stay’

And the operator says, ‘40 cents more for the next 3 minutes’
Please Mrs. Avery, I just gotta talk to her
I’ll only keep her a while
Please Mrs. Avery, I just wanna tell ‘er goodbye

There are three songs played in Hell on a continuous loop: The Night Chicago Died, Billy, Don’t Be a Hero and Sylvia’s Mother.
