END OF MEAT? STARTUPS SEEK ALTERNATIVES FOR THE MASSES
AP ^ | December 29, 2015 | Candice Choi

Patrick Brown is on an improbable mission: Make a burger Americans love, minus the meat.

Veggie patties have been around for decades, but Brown and others want to make foods without animal products that look, cook and taste like the real thing - and can finally appeal to the masses.

Technically Soylent Green would not count. :0 I remember stories about some company tried to get its food produced by fungus or bacteria eating waste/garbage to market back in the 70s/80s. There is currently Quorn with its fungus meat substitute.

I like Boca Burgers, and they’re fewer Points with the new Weight Watchers calculation.

Jackfruit can be an alternative for pulled pork. Never tried it because I can’t find canned jackfruit which is suppose to be better for it than fresh.

Frankly, I think meat is good for you. I think milk is good for you. I think salt is good for you. Sugar is good for you. Water is good for you.

You are what you eat.

Just what I want to grill on my $1,200 Kamado grill: imitation meat.

Stupid hippies can stick their veggie burgers where the sun don’t shine.

I don't see it that way. I see a guy who wants to offer a product to a market that he believes will buy what he's selling.

Maybe he will be successful and make a profit. Maybe he won't and he'll go out of business.

That's how it's supposed to work. I don't see a problem with this at all, although I can't imagine ever becoming a customer (but who knows? Maybe I'll take a bite and be hooked).

What problem do you have with this? Nobody is forcing you to buy or eat this stuff. If they ever do, I'll be on your side.

But I applaud what he's doing and wish him well.

These nuts will be starving after a week of sustained power outage. Without electricity, there will be nothing to produce or deliver their “sustainable” manufactured vegimeatburgerlikeobjects.

I don't like the fake burgers, but do have one exception - Trader Joe's curried burger...:^)

Perhaps it's the curry that makes the difference?

Look way behind the idiot hippies and MSM propaganda. When one looks one finds a desire by the resource owners and their political buddies to have the idiot America public turn from meat. Once we stop eating meat there is more for export and sale to the developing world at a huge profit per pound.

As an aside by giving up meat will "transform" America by making our children small, puny and anemic.(The elites will feed their children meat creating a size difference between the peasant and Lords.

That's not improbable, it's impossible. If animal-rights types and those worried about the environment are so concerned, they should be whole-heartedly supporting the development and refinement of vat-grown meat to the point where it becomes edible and preferable to slaughter-house meat. But Americans aren't going to be giving up meat - not this one, anyway.

Perhaps, but you know what? Put that curry on some chicken or lamb and it'll taste even better than the curried veggie burger =).

Lots of vegetarian powerlifters and body builders these days. As long as you are getting the needed nutrition, a lot of a person’s size is really a matter of getting the necessary calories.

I’m with you, Sacajaweau - meat, milk, eggs, bread, salt, sugar are all good for you. Moderation is the key. Did I mention wine and chocolate? Coffee? Eat tofu and kale, you start looking like those skinny, pasty, girly-boys that eat like that. Plus. I really HATE people who tell me what to eat, especially when there is a moral high-ground component to their beliefs.

My great aunt lived to 103. I visited her apartment, where she lived alone, when she was 97. She had a walker, so I offered to clean her frig. When I opened it, ALL I saw, top to bottom, was — Sarah Lee cakes, Baskin Robbins ice cream, fruit cakes, cookies, See’s candy. You name it, she had it in there. I offered to get her some food - fruits and vegetables, milk? She said, “I have been eating this way all my life, and I am 97.”

I felt like I’d bought the biggest lie!! Good to hear the Truth spoken, always.

Aemelius Paulus - I think it is also, ‘Cows are bad. They eat food that could be used for humans! They fart and ruin the atmosphere! We have to kill them! That makes us savages. If we didn’t eat meat, there would be no war.”

I’m not buying it!

Yes, there is nothing wrong with anything you said in post #9, but the hidden, lurking problem is the government, in the form of a Bloomberg-like nanny, will eventually want to start banning meat and forcing us to eat the alternatives.

I know it is not this guys fault, but that is what people think about when they read stories like this.
