My parents were married when my mom was 17 and my dad was 22. My brother was born 6 months later. I guess in those days his choice was wedding or jail. They shared a great life together producing 5 kids, 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. My father passed away in 2005 and my mother, to this day, still speaks of him often. She can see the spark in her eye when she is telling a story about him. She has never even thought to meet anyone else as in her heart no one could take his place. As I keep saying, it takes two parents to raise a child and too many children are without fathers.

You guys were smart.

I had an international divorce and I did a version of that. For custody, or anything in an international divorce, you need to accept that each party wins in their own country, and then thereafter you will never not fear a kidnap situation. So I fudged the numbers as he wished, and signed away all rights to alimony or much child support. All I wanted was custody and decision making. We were both happy.

It sounded to me like they didn’t want him in the baby’s life. Reasoning that he wasn’t there for the pregnancy. None of it sounds logical to me. Children need both parents and it’s the children who suffer. Sarah should have refrained from commenting.

I would get on a plane and fly up there to see my baby. This is one of the most mixed up stories I have read.I thought he was getting an annulment and they were going to marry. It’s time to grow up.They have a baby and she should come first. He has a right to try for joint custody.I not sure about child support.Let the courts handle it and stop with the interviews.

Argue all you want. The expression “Preachers daughter” has been around forever. Every family on earth, from any religion, or profession or level of education can potentially experience a “black sheep” child that goes off the rails, in spite of seemingly solid parenting. To deny the possibility is an act of irrational stubbornness.

Doesn’t mean it’s a fait accompli, but it can happen to the best of us. The kid making dumb decisions holds the responsibility, unless they are developmentally damaged.

“My parents were married when my mom was 17 and my dad was 22. My brother was born 6 months later.” Good for your parents, Mouse1. As Dennis Prager recently wrote, “Some people aren't ready to get married until...they get married.”

I have concerns about Dakota, as I do about the Palins, but I think this smells like lawyer to me. Look at Dakota and tell me if you see conniving or someone who outside of his training could very well be a victim. He probably was in awe of the Palins and wanted to rescue Bristol but she doesn’t portray the kind of rock woman a wounded hero needs to survive if he does have PTSD and from all accounts, he does.

Every family on earth ... can potentially experience a “black sheep” child.

But not every family does. Sarah's family, unfortunately, seems to have some issues, more than the average family.

You’re funny. The quote you used includes the words “can potentially” ;)

End of the day, I don’t disagree with what I perceive as your disappointment with Bristol. I think we share that feeling. I wish she had made many different choices, especially when representing the abstinence movement. She stands as a moronic tower of hypocrisy. May the Lord guide her back to sanity. I’m pretty sure Sarah and family have tried.

I agree with you. The plague of fatherless families is a dreadful affliction in society - we are only just beginning to see the results. Over the next 20 years the social problems will be shocking.

If Bristol had committed to a marriage, earlier, it may well have spared her children a lot of problems.

Incidentally, her ex-fiance, Levi, has since married and at least has his further children with his wife. He managed that, at least.

Bristol’s 25 years old. Why is her mom publicly involved in this?

Bristol needs to grow up and handle her business.

Bristol needs to keep an aspirin in her purse.

Along with a condom!

If she used the aspirin she wouldn’t need the condom.

“Sarah is through as an elected officeholder.”

I disagree. Mark my words - she will be POTUS one day.

She’s got money now. What she needs is to get back in the ring. I think she likes the attention without the work. Jessica Hahn-remember her?

Bristol Palin makes dirt-bag choices in the men she chooses.

We have "friends" (parents of my sons best friend) who have four kids. He has one daughter with another woman, she has two with two different men. Together they have one. (a son, my son's friend).

What they have now has been stable and they are decent people and I think, because they've had that stability for the better part of 15 years the kids are pretty good kids. A couple of them seem to have some emotional damage but no drugs, etc.

The one daughter has a mother who is a druggie and brings chaos into her life, the other older daughter has a stable family from her father's side (not sure where that father went but he's not in the picture), the middle daughter never knew or had any contact with the father. The youngest, the son, is treated like the second coming and has had every benefit of an in tact family.

That's a better case scenario but it's still an inequitable, less than desirable mess.

I don’t think so if that is the case. Her first consideration should have been what is best for the child.

So that give him a pass for all future behavior? Sorry, although he was awarded a Medal of Honor, I don’t see a lot of “honor” in how he is acting.

And lets face it.. Sarah Palin has turned into an embarrassment Airing the family dirty laundry on Facebook for the world to see. How classy.
