Apple ID runaround
1/23/16

Posted on 01/23/2016 12:10:23 PM PST by pabianice

Got my first iPhone as a gift. Tried to get an Apple ID. I have entered an email address and all the other info. Apple sent me a verification code. Actually, five codes because none of them work to activate my account. Got a 6th code to try but when I again try to access the ID page, it asks for my account ID and then says it is already taken (Duh!) and won't let me to enter the code.

How do I access the page into which to enter the verification code?

Do you have a phone you can call from? And you have tech support, yes?
I haven’t called them in about 6 or 8 months, but they are great. Holler at them & I’ll bet they’ll fix it while you’re on the phone with them.

(not literally ‘holler’. Call them)

I’m not a big Apple fan overall, however, one of the main reasons, if not THE main reason, I’ve kept it is their tech support. If it’s a new phone, it should not cost you anything. I would highly recommend paying for the service going forward for similar tech issues. They are excellent, in my experience anyway.

Apple’s phone number is 1-800-MY-APPLE. . . 1-800-692-7753.

Tell the Apple specialist your problem and I am certain they can get it fixed.

When you type a password on an ipad or iPhone it sometimes auto capitalizes the first letter, and you may not notice it. Could that be the problem?

I would suggest getting your Apple ID on a computer running iTunes.

Then it become an easy matter to use that ID across your other devices.

Seems like you should be able to reset your password from your reference email.

Select reset password at the login screen and select the email option. Then log onto your email and look for the email from Apple. Click the link and follow the instructions. It may take a few minutes for the Apple email to be posted.

Good luck.

Got an iPhone from work, whereas I have been in the Android world personally—and it felt like I was crossing behind the Iron Curtain circa 1968, with all the Apple ID stuff.

Creeped me out.

Others have described well calling into Apple Tech Support. Another suggestion is to drop by any Apple Store, which are located at most shopping malls. I suspect that your multiple circles through applying for the ID have either tangled computers or tangled yourself on the password. Very easy to do and no big deal to fix.

I think the Apple Store could be better for you mainly because you can get some rapid, one-on-one assistance on not only your Apple ID problem but some assistance with other setup items and quick instruction. Walk in the store, say you need help and they will give you an appointment with one of the Genius folks there. If you're interested, you can also sign up for an orientation session to later go into more detail on how to more fully operate the IPhone. Appointments with the Genius person generally take a 15 minute to 2 hour wait. Best time for a short wait is to avoid weekends.

Last, you can get excellent assistance with any IPhone (or any other product) even if it was not purchased directly from Apple. For example, my IPhone was through AT&T and I have solely used an Apple store for any and all help through the years. Good folks.
