Video: Super-Powered Russian ATV That Can “Walk” Across Broken Ice

We’re not sure if this is an ATV, or just a really small tank. Produced in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Sherp ATV is touted as one of the most durable and versatile ATVs on the market. It weighs just under 3,000 pounds and comes equipped with a 44.3 horsepower Kubota V1505 diesel engine, giving it a modest 28 mph on land. What is truly impressive about the Sherp is that it is aquatic as well, thanks to its giant, self-inflating tires. That makes getting across a lake with open ice a breeze, although it still looks pretty scary. Don’t worry too much about the vehicle sinking either—a built-in device rapidly drains water from the craft if it becomes overburdened.

If that wasn’t enough, it even comes with a protective polymer shell. Of course, it does have a pretty hefty price tag. The base price of the Sherp ATV starts at $65,000 while an upgraded version, decked out with a larger cabin and hard top, is marked at $70,000.

Is that too much to pay to one-up just about everyone you know? What are your thoughts on this beast of an ATV?

It floats like a boat and swims. Tire design enables it to travel from land to water and back again without stopping.

If an American company developed and manufactured this amazing vehicle, the story would be quite different.

The company would run into an EPA investigation, whereby the government demands that the developing company spend years and millions of dollars on studies to prove that this vehicle will not hurt the environment.

After many delays and much cost, the company decides on a location for its new plant. However, because they need to hire at least 100 employees, the must secure more capitol up front in order to pay for ObamaCare for their workers. The UAW shows up to protest, saying the workers they hired are not the "right" workers and demands their people be hired. The company protest to the Labor Dept and the NLRB, but finds that a mysterious fire engulfs their newly completed manufacturing plant overnight. The Justice Dept and the FBI say it does not warrent an investigation.

The company builds a new plant, after a cost of more millions and a delay of 3 more years. But environmental groups sue, saying this new vehicle threatens the spawning patterns of the Siscowet Lake Trout. The company is forced to hire 10 lawyers, and litigation costs mount into the millions.

After 25 years, the first ATV is produced. Due to all the expenses, the asking price if $1.75 million for the stripped down model, and $2.0 million for the one with frills.

Small engine, only 28 mph. Kinda pricy at 70K.

The tires are probably very expensive.

I would like to see how it does on slopes.
