Explanation: Taken on March 20 from the top of Haleakala on the isle of Maui, planet Earth, the first sunrise of northern spring is pictured in this vacation snapshot. The telephoto view from the volcanic caldera above a sea of clouds also captures an elusive green flash near the Sun's upper limb. Atmospheric layers with sharp temperature changes cause the colorful flash as the Sun rises behind a distant cloud bank. Refraction along sight lines through the layers creates multiple distorted images of the Sun, and for a moment, can visibly deflect shorter wavelength green light.

Np flash of Spring here in Northern Ohio. ^ inches of snow, “feel like” temp is 10 degrees.
I’ve seen this in person. Quite amazing (and cold).
I’ve looked for this “green flash” numerous times from the roof-top bar at the La Concha hotel in Key West. The hotel says it’s often visible there. I think it’s just a ploy to get people drinking... At least it’s never cold out when it (is supposed to) happen(s).
I saw the “green flash” at a sunset on Sanibel Island, FL.
“I saw the green flash at a sunset on Sanibel Island, FL.”
I saw WAAAAY too many green flashes in Nam.
Absinthe ?
“Absinthe ?”
I’m not certain which green you are referring to. I have read of, but have never seen, the green light at sunset. Perhaps that is due to a green tracer impacting my helmet and rattling my brain. Or perhaps I consumed too much absinthe. That could happen. I know of only one establishment that serves absinthe now, not that I actively search for it. Palombo’s Restaurant limits its customers to three drinks of it. Perhaps they have a fear of wormwood?
Well, we should be grateful you’re still here. ;-) Maybe you’ll get to see the “green flash” from the sun to complete the trifecta.
