FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, ARPIL 11, 2016: Expect roadblocks statewide during fishing and hunting seasons SANTA FE – The Department of Game and Fish will conduct roadblocks throughout the state during the hunting and fishing seasons to collect harvest data and to detect wildlife law violations. The 2016-17 fishing season began April 1. Youth turkey hunting season began April 8 and the general season begins April 15. For more information, please consult the department's fishing or hunting Rules & Information booklets available at www.wildlife.state.nm.us or at area offices and license vendors. At roadblocks, conservation officers also will check for compliance with the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Act and the Aquatic Invasive Species Control Act. Drivers of vehicles hauling wood products will be asked to produce documentation as required by the Forest Conservation Act. Department officers may be assisted by other law enforcement agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, New Mexico State Police or county sheriff’s offices. As a result, the public may encounter minor delays. To report a wildlife-law violation, please contact a Department of Game and Fish area office in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Raton, Roswell or Las Cruces, or call the toll-free Operation Game Thief hotline at (800) 432-GAME (4263). Callers can remain anonymous and earn rewards for information leading to charges being filed. Violations also can be reported online at Operation Game Thief.

They did this in NY (no road blocks but required to pull into rest areas) up to about 20 years ago. There are so many deer now in many areas causing so many car wrecks that the DEC seems to be turning a blind eye.

Hunting tax and it’s over enforcement is still all about the money. Picture ID required.

LEO “safety” checkpoints are common in PA where I live. I have never actually gone through one, because I am too impatient... they are usually located on a main highway (55 mph) and back up traffic for many miles. I just take back roads home when I see this, as do most other people. I would guess that anyone with anything to hide would do the same, so what is the point, other than to inconvenience all motorists during peak commute times returning home from work? I know what the USC has ruled, but they are wrong, this is unconstitutional.

Youth turkey season. I want to see a young turkey shoot a shotgun. I’d pay to see it.

What’s the point? Conditioning the population.

I think the effect is not conditioning, but pissing people off to the point where there is real tangible animosity between ordinary folks and the police. The relationship between non-police and police has shifted from collaborative to adversarial.

I wouldn’t think that the police would want to go down that road.I don’t think they realize how vulnerable they are if the population turns against them.

I am glad that we’ve caught all the drug smugglers and undocumented aliens, so now we can turn our LEO attention to less pressing matters like unsigned turkey tags

Trump will win New York 94-1. There is a CD in Brooklyn with a lot of Hasidic Jews. Largely Republican, but for Cruz. That CD will be under 50% for Trump.

I had a bear run in front of my car on sunday here in FL. At first I thought it was a deer but NOPE. LOL.

The actual police have very little power over that. Its all dictated from above.

PS: Am I the only one who sees the obvious 4th Amendment conflict? Roadblocks for the purpose of looking for crimes (fishing) is a clear violation.

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court decided that roadblocks are OK, because they violate everyone’s rights equally.

Had a bear on our property 30 hours ago, got into a garbage can...he ran away from the BB’s I was hittin’ him with.

He should be up in the forest now.
