Yep, Ronnie was a wheeler.

A 1962 Willy’s Jeep CJ-6 once owned by President Reagan is on display on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as part of the Cars at the Capital event organized by the Historic Vehicle Association.

The used 4x4 was a Christmas gift from his wife Nancy in 1963, and was famously driven by him around their Rancho del Cielo in California’s Santa Ynez mountains well into his presidency.

Looks like the passenger side windshield wiper was an option or not available. Same for the outside rearview mirror. Much different than my 2015 Wrangler.

Yes.

I never cared for the CJ6.

My Willys CJ5 is down again due to a radiator. I plan to order one Friday on payday and see if I can keep it running again for a few weeks.

Democrats would probably rather see Ted Kennedy's Oldsmobile.

I don’t think the passenger wiper was needed.

Probably missing or removed and very probably vacuum operated. My 65 had them. I bought an aftermarket conversion kit but they don’t work at all.

I plan to get a 68/69 windshield that supports the electric motor. Besides my windshield frame is rusted anyway.

I saw his newer Jeep out in Santa Barbara at the Reagan Center... the one he rode in with Gorbachev. If you are ever out there, the facility is worth an afternoon tour.

“I saw his newer Jeep out in Santa Barbara at the Reagan Center”

I think President Reagan had a Jeep Scrambler as well.

You owned one of these?

Was the passenger wiper optional?

The passenger seat was an option. I think wipers were standard for both sides.

I miss RR.
I remember plowing driveways with my Dad in his war surplus Jeep circa 1949. I got to run the plow by pumping the hydraulic pump to raise the blade. Cold nights in Massachusetts, but I was happy then to be Dad’s helper.

I finally replaced the radiator in my CJ3. Just too, too many leaks this time around. I tried, but gave up and ordered a new one.

I had a CJ-7 16 years after Nancy gave this one to Ron. It was a fun ride. Had a ragtop like this CJ-6 and wireframe doors covered in cloth and drop-down plastic windows. The doors popped off in seconds (just lift them up) and the top went down in a jif. It was fantastic in our California weather. Friend and I drove it to Durango, CO for a ski trip one January and it was so cold inside that our water bottle froze solid — with the “heater” going full blast!

Yes indeed, when Jeeps were Jeeps!
