William Schallert, 93, Dies; Prolific Actor Was Father on ‘The Patty Duke Show’

William Schallert, a familiar presence on prime-time television for decades, notably as the long-suffering father and uncle to the “identical cousins” played by Patty Duke on the hit 1960s sitcom “The Patty Duke Show,” died on Sunday in Pacific Palisades, Calif. He was 93.

His son, Edwin, confirmed the death.

His face was one of the kindest and most understanding I’ve ever seen. He played a great Dad!

He played a hard core leftist in real life. William Schallert was the opposite of another president of the Sreen Actors Guild, Ronald Reagan.

For a guy who acted in a gazillion different TV shows and movies, I’ll bet 95% (or more ) of the people who know who he was will say “Patty Duke’s dad”.

Wow. First Patty Duke dies, now her father. Anyone know about Cathy, Patty’s identical cousin? Famous people die in sets of 3, so I’m worried about Cathy’s health!
