New Low of 52% "Extremely Proud" to Be Americans
Gallup ^ | July 1, 2016 | Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, N.J. -- As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, 52% of U.S. adults say they are "extremely proud" to be Americans, a new low in Gallup's 16-year trend. Americans' patriotism spiked after 9/11, peaking at 70% in 2003, but has declined since, including an eight-percentage-point drop in early 2005 and a five-point drop since 2013.

Americans' declining patriotism is likely related to broader dissatisfaction with the way things are going in the U.S. In January 2004, when 69% were extremely proud to be an American, 55% of Americans were satisfied with the way things were going in the U.S. That was the last time satisfaction has been at the majority level, and the percentage satisfied has mostly held below 30% since 2007, including the 29% in Gallup's most recent update.

Americans' patriotism stayed relatively flat from 2006 through 2013, a period that spanned the Great Recession and Barack Obama's election and first term as president. But over the last three years, Americans' willingness to say they are extremely proud to be an American has declined further.

How funny. Michelle Obama has only been proud of this country since her husband has been president.

But then she’s still a victim since she is forced to live in a house built by slaves.

The 4th of July is about freedom and this holiday really should be meaningful.

for that reason I don’t understand why we now observe it.

a much more honest holiday today would be, “The FORMER Fourth of July”.

How can I be proud of a country that will let her get way with it?

This is understandable when you think that half of the people living here are only here for the freebies and government handouts and still “identify” as whatever the hell they were before sneaking into the country.

I am proud of the original concept, those who fought to defend it militarily, those who worked to uphold it politically and the example of the daily lives of those who sought to live the American Dream as it was intended.

I am not proud of the current state of this nation, filled with freeloaders, bitchy snowflakes, grievance groups and evildoers bent on eradicating freedom and Judeo-Christian morality.

I was proud to be an American
In a place I knew I was free
And I won’t forgive the men who lied
And took that right from me

I’ll fly my flag once Trump is in office. I won’t do it with this wretched scum in charge.

I am VERY proud to be an American. But really dislike the direction of the country. Being a patriot, I am very interested in making America great again.

I guess it goes without saying that I am a Trump supporter. The dive to the bottom started shortly after 9/11 and turned exponential in 2008. I’m depending on Trump to turn that around because Killary, for sure, will not.

Kinda like Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars I, Trump is our only hope.

Seems like a dumb poll.
I see it as proud or not. I’m always proud of my country. I sure as hell have zero pride for the people that elected Obama.

Is anyone else conflicted about the 7 deadly sin entry?

I wonder how much of that is due to the ever-increasing percentage of the population composed of 3rd-world immigrants who came here for nothing more than what they can get through government benefits. They have no allegiance to the host nation, only to the government co-parasite that lets them eat its table scraps.

Obozo sees this as a failure. He was shooting for lower than 30% or lower.

“New Low of 52% “Extremely Proud” to Be Americans”

Most American’s don’t realize all they have to say is “Democrats”, and they will have stated what’s wrong with America today. Knowing what’s wrong is the first step to recovery.
