Mobile and PC Monitoring Software (Vanity)
today | day10

Posted on 08/17/2016 12:42:03 PM PDT by day10

FR has been a great resource before, so I'll give it a whirl here: Some friends of mine have a rather "adventurous" teenage daughter. As a result, they are looking for recommendations on the best options to STEALTHILY monitor her Windows 10 PC and IOS smartphone.

While I am an IT type, I have zero experience or knowledge of this stuff as I never really needed it with my now adult sons.

Anyone here have any experience and/or recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah...don’t do it. Trust your child, but verify what she tells you.

for the mobile device, look at AirWatch or MaaS360.

for the desktop, not too sure.

Look up "WebWatcher"

you can get it for PC's and Cell Phones.

"SpyAgent" is another one.

Windows 10? Ask Microsoft, they monitor it with that OS.

From “Parenting Mag”, for what it’s worth -

http://www.parenting.com/article/how-to-spy-on-your-child-online

It used to be easier to manage back when it was just desktop PCs, but now kids carry a mini-pc around with them (smartphones).
(I’m glad I grew up in a world where you had to hunt down a payphone.)

As for the phone, my son randomly asks his daughter to see it, and looks thru it. Take them by surprise, they usually don't delete things unless they're expecting it.

Teens are very adventurous at a much earlier age now.

For the home PC and for when she's using your home wifi on her phone you can use OpenDNS,

You can use the web filtering portion to block entire categories of sites, such as porn, gambling, etc.

For times when she's on the phone's cellular network you might check with your network provider (Verizon, etc) to see what kind of parental controls they offer.

Heh. Yeah, the usual question re:Win10 is “How can I stop MS from monitoring everything I do?”

“You aren’t fooling us, Hillary.”

Double “Heh”!

OpenDNS allows the user to monitor and even block access on a home network. Works well and it is free.

Huge benefit: it can be done anonymously and no additional software is required. Only a change to two entries in your router.

That is standard for them, but this once has some emotional issues, as well, and they want to take it an extra step.

They have all that covered already. They want keylogging, social media monitoring, etc.

Veriato is my go-to publisher for “spy software” at my business. It can record all activity on the computer, email, key logging, web activity, and you can set it to take screenshots at regular intervals. It’s more of a business product though, so you might be able to find something similar designed for home use that is cheaper.
