The Miramar Air Station Air Show starts on Friday and features the Blue Angels, the Army Golden Knights and the Navy Leap Frogs Parachute Team.

Expected to attract around 500,000 spectators, the largest military air show in the country will mark 100 years of the Marine Corps Reserve and the 70th anniversary of the Blue Angels demonstration team this year.

The Marine Corps Reserve started in August 1916 and comprise more than 100,000 men and women serving at home and overseas. The Reserve is the largest command in the Marines.

The Marine Air-Ground Task Force will perform a demonstration and the flight line will have static displays of current and former aircraft, airshow memorabilia, vendors and activities for children. The air show’s new ‘2016 be Clear’ security policy asks visitors to show identification and prohibits bags that aren’t clear as well as ice chests and coolers.

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is just of the 805 and there is free parking on base.

General admission tickets are free and can be found on the air show’s website.

The show runs Friday, September 23 to Sunday, September 25.

On the insignia, has the Marine Corp gone back to putting the red ball in the white star like was done prior to 1942?

I remember when they wanted to close Miramar and make it into a replacement airport for San Diego. I'm glad they didn't.

After the Corps shut down MCAS El Toro, I believe because of water
issues, the 3rd MAW needed a new home. Miramar was a perfect fit.

Swing with the Wing, baby.

My bride and I met many Marines at Miramar earlier this year, enlisted and officers and some of their wives. These young men and women are among the finest Americans of our day. May God continue to guide, bless and protect them.
