A 7.7-magnitude quake struck at 9:22am EST at a depth of 33 kilometers some 40 km southwest of Puerto Quellon in southern Chile on Sunday, the United States Geological Survey said.
The quake prompted a tsunami threat message by the Tsunami Warning Center for areas as far as 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the epicenter.

For those who have never been in a sizable quake, I was in San Jose in ‘89 quake, 60 miles from the center.

This mornings quake WAS predicted a couple hours in advance.
Folks were stationed in Japan in the 1950s. We had slow rock and rollers every few days. Then, about once every few months, a whopper, up and down, streetcar jumped off the tracks whammo...
Ive been watching those guys for a few years. They are very good. It really is all about the sun.
