Was never a country fan growing up, either. But I stumbled upon the show “Nashville” and liked the music. Two of the characters (Decan and Scarlett IIRC) did a free concert at the Indy State Fair when we were there, and I was suitably impressed.

The actress that plays Scarlett is actually an Aussie, and really does write and sing her own songs. Quite a talented young lady.

I’m still back in the ‘80s with Freestyle Music :)

Most fun years of my life. It’s my “safe space” :)

I'll have to check out "Nashville", thanks for the tip.

Got started on my early rock "kick" while seeing "Million Dollar Quartet" in Las Vegas. About 18 months later, I took my wife and son when the traveling show made a stop in East Texas.

It was a very short time after my son and I visited Sun Studio in Memphis (main purpose for the trip was for the Gonzaga/Memphis game).

My son obviously paid attention on the tour...lol. The following week, his drama teacher remarked that Elvis had written "Blue Suede Shoes". She didn't like being corrected by one of her students, i.e. my son. Carl Perkins wrote that song, and hit #1 on the charts with it before Elvis, though Elvis sold more records.

I listen to a lot of country when my grandson is in the car with us, his favorite XM station is #56, "The Highway"...contemporary country. The songs are ok, but that 6 YO boy sings along with at least 90% of the songs. It's a real kick to hear him sing along with those songs about whiskey, beer, and cheatin' women that break one's heart...lol.

LOL, I hear you. I probably couldn't tell you one Swift song myself. My wife is more likely to listen to her, but I don't think she is even a listener since I see that I have zero songs by her.

I have found a new type of music called mashups that are kind of fun when done right.

Taylor Swift did a truly good deed. And it’s not the only one. She donated a large sum of money to victims of the arson wild fires in Tennessee and also to many other disaster victims. These disasters have been notable ignored by most of Hollywood superstars.

I feel exactly the same way. I like what I like and it doesn’t matter what “genre” it falls into.

I doubt it, since Lena Dunham is her best friend, but at least she seems to keep politics out of her music and public persona. Would that the rest of the entertainment world would follow suit.

Bro, that kicked ass! :)

Before I was a z28 driving steroid quido, I was a drummer in high school :)

I have to watch a bunch of those.

Very cool. So imaginative, some people are. Great mesh of songs, bands.

I'm glad you liked it. There are some really good ones that I have added to my collection.

Try some of these

Skip this: Wax Audio: MASHOPOLOS - The Movie (Official Trailer) as it is not what I am pointing you to.

Newer groups

Haven't listened to these yet, but they look promising

Actually I listened to the first one, Peggy Lee Vs Iggy Pop - Passenger Fever, and I loved it

Have listened to a few already, from Stevie Wonder to Metallica :)

Thanks for turning me on to it.

Thanks for the links.

Plus I need to start finding new rock somewhere before I have a nervous breakdown from the same old 30 and 40 year old albums!!

I love them but I need some variety!!

Roy Acuff was definitely a country singer though who had his roots solidly formed in bluegrass but catered to the country crowd where the bigger listening base was.

Hard to play Bluegrass to big audiences without electronics. Electrified instruments just sound better than electronic amplification in a big outdoor venue.

True Bluegrass is what we sang on the back porch on Saturday evening when the neighbors came over. If you think about it we might have been the original jazz, since we were never singing the same song. :)
