He means what he says. He's not a politician.
To: Lurkinanloomin
From the article:
He presented himself not as a Republican or a conservative but as a populist independent. The essential message: Remember those things I said in the campaign? I meant them. I meant it all.

Not beholden to big money donors. His best attribute.
He is free to speak his mind.

Normally a new president has someone backing him up, someone publicly behind him. Mr. Obama had the mainstream media the big broadcast networks, big newspapers, activists and intellectuals, pundits and columnists of the left the whole shebang. He had a unified, passionate party. Mr. Trump in comparison has almost nothing. The mainstream legacy media oppose him, even hate him, and will not let up. The columnists, thinkers and magazines of the right were mostly NeverTrump; some came reluctantly to support him. His party is split or splitting. The new president has gradations of sympathy, respect or support from exactly one cable news channel, and some websites. He really has no one but those who voted for him. Do they understand what a lift daily governance is going to be, and how long the odds are, with so much arrayed against him, and them? Interesting

It us and Trump against the world, the GOP better get on board or be run over.
From the Article :
The speech will electrify President Trumps followers. They will feel satisfaction that they understood him and knew what they were backing. And it will deepen the Washington establishments unease. Republican leaders had been hoping the address would ameliorate their anxieties about the continued primacy of their traditional policy preferences. Forget that. This was a declaration that the president is going his own way and theyd best follow.

Do they understand what a lift daily governance is going to be, and how long the odds are, with so much arrayed against him, and them? The establishment has two choices....either get on board the Trump train, or they will get a violent revolution from the right and we will destroy them. We are done with their way of doing things and it's our turn now....you can be amenable, or you can get forced...the choice is theirs.

When the tapes with Billy Bush came out, Trump and staff went to his New York office. I genuinely think he was on the edge withdrawing in favor of Pence. What kept him in is that a crowd of supporters came out to Trump tower and urged him to continue. He went out into the street and thanked them, then went upstairs, and continued his campaign.
The deplorables will have his back as long as he fights for us, and that will be enough.

I was kind of disappointed in Trump’s inauguration speech. I guess it sounded great to anyone who wasn’t involved in his campaign, but to me it was like hearing one of his campaign rally speeches from late October for the second or third time. LOL.

The most interesting comment about Trump’s inauguration speech came from Dana Perino. She said if Trump’s speech had come from the lips of Bernie Sanders, the press would have loved it.

“Poor Peggy has her knickers in a twist.”
I disagree. I think this was a fair assessment of the lay of the land - from Noonan no less.
It seems that she is coming to realize - even accept, what we who are Trump supporters instinctively grasped from the beginning of his campaign: do not take everything that Donald Trump says LITERALLY - but you must take him SERIOUSLY.
She alludes to this (newfound?) understanding in this line:
“Throughout the speech, and much of the day, Mr. Trump looked stern. At first I thought it was the face he puts on when hes nervous. I dont think so now.”
Those who underestimate Trump, do so at their peril.

Our dear Ms. Noonan seems to be getting a slight whiff of distant reality and she’s concerned.

It was a resounding refutation of all the chatterers expecting a “pivot.” It was his way of saying: “I. Meant. Every. Single. Word.”
To: Lurkinanloomin
A little humility would have gone a long way, but thats not the path he took. Nor did he attempt to reassure. It was pow, right in the face. Most important, he did not in any way align himself with the proud Democrats and Republicans arrayed around him. He looked out at the crowd and said he was allied with them.Poor Peggy mustn't have understood the part about giving the power back to the People - sounds humble to me. He also uses the words "we" and "us" like Obama used "I" and "me" - totally incomprehensible to the Left.

When I compare this nonsense to the things Peggy Noonan wrote about Barack Obama after his election, I can only conclude that she has destroyed whatever credibility she ever had.

I loved that he smacked them right in the face and told it like it is. They have been looking out for themselves and screwing us for decades while our country was overrun with illegal aliens.

Love him or hate him, anyone capable of that is honestly not to be underestimated. Let’s hope they continue to do so.

Even the morning of the inauguration, on CNN [I listened for about 10 minutes before turning to CSPAN coverage], the newsies were handwringing, 'can he govern? Obama had experience. Trump doesn't.'
Yeah, the newsies seemed to forget that Obama's claim to executive experience in 2008 was his running his own presidential campaign. Trump has been running a large, world-wide corporation for decades.
The handwringing will continue. The media and opposition will always manage to feign being offended by whatever position President Trump does take or doesn't take.
