Opioid Related Deaths Overtake Gun Fatalities
ZeroHedge ^ | February 25, 2017 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 02/26/2017 6:05:00 AM PST by Religion and Politics

A recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report shows that nearly 5,000 more people died from opioids in 2015 than in 2014. Both heroin and opioid use have exploded in the US, after decades of doctors over-prescribing painkillers in the 1990s and 2000s. A report from the CDC released Thursday found that the drug problem has become so deadly that heroin deaths outnumbered gun fatalities last year for the first time in US history. Until 2007, gun deaths outnumbered heroin deaths five to one, according to the Washington Post. But 2015 saw 12,989 people die from heroin and 12,979 die from gun homicides.

The rats have allowed drug gangs to conduct business freely and kill the youth of this nation. All it takes is one stupid time and your done! Trump cleaning up the gangs and drugs is a start, jobs and seeing a future is another. A long hard road

Of course the problem here isn’t drug gangs. Unless you consider doctors a gang. We’ve been over prescribing opioids in this country for decades, then we have the audacity to blame the patient for getting hooked.

And second trimester or later abortions outdoes both gun fatalities and opioid deaths. How do people continue to support the policies that brings such death and destruction upon themselves?

From a quick search citing 2011 stats. I calculate 13,200 later term abortions (after 21 weeks) in 2011 from the data cited, which is probably under reported.

Gun fatalities are certainly not under-reported. Heroine fatalities almost certainly are. The problem is worse than stated.

I saw this coming forty years ago, as attitudes and morals crumbled with my generation coming of age. Clinton, Obama, and Rather are both symptoms and cause. The boomers have totally screwed up this country and left an irreparable mess for coming generations.

We should make them illegal!

Saw a good documentary on Fentanyl on Netflix. What a mess.

Well, then, there can only be one set of solutions:

  1. There shall be a NICS check for anyone wishing to purchase opioids.
  2. High-capacity 'Assault Opioids' shall be banned as 'drugs of war'.
  3. Small-dose 'concealable Saturday Night Special' opioids shall be banned.
  4. Only one pill may be purchased per month.
  5. You must store all your opioids in a safe, and authorities must be allowed to inspect.
  6. You may not 'stockpile an arsenal' of opioids. Only three pills are allowed in your certified drug safe.
  7. You may not own opioids that are colored black.
  8. There is a 3-to-10 day waiting period between perscription and reciept of your painkillers.
IF IT SAVES *ONE* *LIFE*, it's WORTH IT!!!

Signed,

The Brady Campaign to Ban Painkillers.

The article blames over-prescribing of pain meds in the 90’s and 2000’s as the cause of the problem. What else happened in this time frame? NAFTA and an increasingly porous southern border. This allows massive quantities of heroin to get into the country (its not being produced domestically). I remember reading stories about heroin starting to become cheap and readily available during the 90’s. Right around the time the border started weakening. If the heroin wasn’t so prevalent, the OD deaths would not be happening anywhere near as often. But the PC types can’t make this connection (open border = heroin deaths) because that would be ‘Racist’. It’s easier to blame it on the doctor (easily stereotyped as an old, rich white guy) pushing pills on his unsuspecting patient.

Excellent point. I think Tyler Durden missed some really good dots to connect in his article.

Don’t forget the mandatory cap-lock on all opioid prescription bottles to prevent accidental ingestion.

Obamacare happened, too. And that does indeed have something to do with opioid over-prescription and abuse...

Obamacare program may be linked to ER opioid prescriptions

Excellent analysis nhbob1. Tangent to this. One one of the business programs the other day was a Drug Company rep denoting their latest to help those with pain, a slow release steroidal injection ( that last for months ) initially for knees and then to be expanded to other joints, no mention of it working for vertebra in backs. My point being, lets get the FDA to fast track modalities / medicines that can prevent this transition from opioid to street drugs in the future. Pain is an issue, lets get the FHA aboard and I am not against real research into Marijuana utilized topically etc as a real product, not something from a new age head shop.

“There is a 3-to-10 day waiting period between perscription and reciept of your painkillers.”

Sorry, NO SALE! Although Opioids are powerful drugs, just try getting over back surgery without them. Taken properly they have great benefit to those in pain.

My cousin made an alarmist facebook post about the FDA allowing prescribing Oxycontin for children under 10. He was agin it. I am outraged that physicians cannot prescribe the most effective medications for children suffering terminal cancer or other diseases because of fear of abuse by others. Disgusting.

Re: Over prescribing opioids

A few years ago I had both knees replaced. I took Percocet as prescribed since I had been warned that without sufficient pain relief physical therapy would be less successful. BIG MISTAKE!

Getting off those drugs was the worst week I have ever had in my life! A true walk through hell.

One of the knees became infected and had to be removed. Three months later a new one was placed. This time I was MUCH smarter and only took the pain medication if pain was a level 3 or 4. I had no problem getting off the drugs. None at all!
