For the first time in Italy, two gay partners have been legally recognized as fathers of two surrogate children.
The children were born to a surrogate mother in the United States using artificial insemination, but both of the men will officially be named as its father — not just the parent who is biologically related.
Judges at Trento’s Court of Appeal made the historic ruling in line with the birth certificate issued in the US, which stated the dual paternity, according to the Article 29 website.
The website, which takes its name from the article in the Italian Constitution regarding family life, published the ruling on Tuesday, though the ruling was dated February 23rd.
In their decision, judges noted that the foreign birth certificate was valid because in Italy parental relationships are not determined solely by biological relationships. …

That's about right. People who use reproductive concubines (surrogates) are deliberately, intentionally, with "malice" aforethought, severing the mother-baby bond, a bond very important to the child's tragic chance; it should never happen by choice.
Furthermore, they are deliberately, intentionally raising the child as a half-orphan (without mother), robbing the child of 1/2 o his kinship network (grandparents, natural siblings, aunts-uncles-cousins, and on and on) and half of his sense of genetic identity. Again, this sometimes happens by tragic chance; it should never happen by choice.
They reduce sacred motherhood to a crass commercial transaction and the baby to a commodity: a kind of expensive pet or optional lifestyle accessory,
And they raise him with two parents who don't have normal relationships with either men or women.
The poor child is ab object. Dies anybody not believe this? Let me ask: you think they'd accept the "damaged goods" if the baby had a serious birth defect or disability? Not a chance. That child would be stranded in legal and parental limbo. It happens. It breaks your heart.
It's against the law in Italy. It should be against the law everywhere.
