Missing in your analysis are Peter Brown & Felix Pappalardi. Bruce never wrote as good songs alone as he did with Brown, and Pappalardi was a genius along the lines of George Martin when he worked with Cream.

Okay. I love Clapton, in the 80s when I was taking up guitar he was the guy I listened to over and over and over. Wore out his album with John Mayall and his stuff with Cream. But even then I found his work after Derek and The Dominoes and Blind Faith to be sort of ... dull I guess. Same licks all the time, standard 3 minute pop songs, just sort of dull. A few gems in there, to be sure, but I feel like overall he let his spark just turn down for a decade or more. I know he was a heroin addict for much of that time and I don't think the guys he was playing with were skilled enough to ever challenge him musically to elevate his game (like a Jack Bruce / Ginger Baker / Steve Winwood / Dwayne Allman, etc were) and that combo of drugs and complacency is probably what drove it.

And yet I just can't see Hendrix ever having such a bland period as Clapton went through. Maybe that's just because he burned so brightly for such a short time that it's unimaginable that he would ever dim but still, it's how I feel.

The beginning when he is just strumming the guitar then starts Layla and starting at around 6:45 where he changes up.
The piano man is pretty darn good too.

Clapton’s work with Derek and the Dominoes is some of the hottest guitar-work around. Pick up the extended live of the Dominoes and enjoy the experience.

Also go to http//tela.sugarmegs.org to download any and all live shows of Eric from his comeback solo tour in 1974 to perhaps even this show if it pops up.

” However, in a 2004 interview with Uncut, Clapton referred to Powell as “outrageously brave”.[156] He complained that the UK was “... inviting people in as cheap labour and then putting them in ghettos”

Have to say I was never too enamored with Clapton the solo liver performer. He just seems to halfheartedly go through his songs with little passion. A live Clapton rendition of Layla is almost sad how sleepy and blah it is.

And I figured he only played guitar, who knew he could also play a liver.

His autobiography is wonderful.

I would LOVE to catch one of his last shows.

I agree on Eric’s vocals too

He never claimed to be Paul Rodgers or Robert Plant or Chris Cornell....the latter being maybe best rock pipes ever

But Eric’s vocals matched his post Bramletts work very well...and the song Badge with The Cream.....earlier proof of his vocal capability

My Wifey’s favorite song of all time....though she was all of two or three when it hit..lol

Not to mention the song which ranks in the same pantheon as Stairway or Free Bird or Satisfaction

Layla

Did he sing with the Yards?

Years ago, Clapton was asked, “who’s the world’s greatest guitarist?” His answer: “Ask Phil Keaggy”.
