Do your beliefs shape reality?
The American Thinker ^ | 3/30/17 | John Conlin

What would you think if you discovered the local school was teaching your child 4+4 did not equal 8 but rather 5? To damage a child in this manner would border on child abuse.

Luckily we have no such thing. Schools teach students mathematics as it truly is. They also do so in many other subjects; imparting the facts as discovered over millennium. No one is asked their opinion or is any weight given to their feelings when learning about the world around us.

This way of thinking is a progeny of the Scientific Revolution; a time when the concept of science was created.

Well, here is your first mistake. Go check out Common Core mathematics and get back to us on this.

You shouldn't be playing in the street.

The operative word is "shape"

My beliefs are core to my understanding and interpretation of the events in my life ... the things that act at me and upon me.

Getting a slap from a girl has to be interpreted (f'rinstance) and what I believe about girls and violence and morality and a ton of OTHER influences will determine my immediate next reality.

Nice article. But you may get dinged by a few for pushing your own blog.

Ignore them.

Personally I appreciate hearing from Freepers who actually are willing to invest the time and energy into building, populating and maintaining a well organized website that supports the ideas and ideals of Good Old FR.

I thought about many of those same issues but with only about 600 words to work with you have to leave a lot out... but I agree 100% with Common Core.

My wife was damaged by “New Math” decades ago... went from being pretty good at it to lost in a short period of time. I’m certain many Freepers had the same experience

To do it to degree of course our believe shape reality that’s basic cause and effect

I make choices. My choices affect others

If a Hitler or Stalin had different beliefs how much would our current reality be different?

Reality is what “I” think it is. You can “change” my mind and then “that” becomes the new reality. But for all of us, reality is not something external of us, it is internal. It means reality is actually different for each individual. What we need to think about is “collective agree-upon reality” or “consensus reality.”

[[Do your beliefs shape reality?]]

Yes- it makes my reality even better knowing that I have eternal rest when it’s over- I can sleep soundly knowing that I have a God who helps guide me through life as well- I can’t imagine going through life thinking that this was all there was- Like the saying goes- for the saved, life on earth is as close to hell as we’ll ever get- but for the unsaved, life here is as close to heaven as they will get except for judgment day’

Life is good when you are on the winning team- so yes, belief in spiritual reality does shape my life- for the better

Luck? There have been events in my past that might be attributed to sheer luck. However, "chance favors the prepared mind." Be ready for luck when it happens.

Reality is what’s there whether you believe in it or not.
