Since I don't watch TV and do not have cable, I subscribe to Netflix (viewed via my wi-fi from the internet). I did this in a vain attempt to be able to watch movies at home. I love the way Netflix bills itself as the "largest home entertainment network". Hey, Netflix, I've got the bread and the mustard, and you sure have the baloney!
The few made-in-Hollywood-by-professional-filmmakers movies they offer---the kind you watch in theaters---are at least 10 years old and most older. The only currently made movies are their own dreadful attempts. The same with Amazon movies. Otherwise, they offer old TV episodes, documentaries, and faigelah fare (gay garbage).
Is there a way to watch current movies (and maybe the occasional Nova or other worthy program), equipped with cable internet and wi-fi?
I have NF My kids have Hulu and Amazon Prime. They like them and I like mine.

We have Amazon Prime, which is nice. We also have HBO Go and watch all HBO online. There is another HBO option if you don't have cable TV that is $5 more a month ($20 total, I think).
We go to the network websites to watch current content on-demand.
Roku does well for a number of other networks online. Hulu is another option.
None of the magic boxes are going to get you want you are looking for. You can stream HBO or Starz. You can rent movies from iTunes.
They (the netflixes of the world) are moving towards an original programming model. You won’t get “new” movies on there any time soon.
For recent movies, you probably need to go with a pay-per-movie service. Vudu and Amazon both offer those.
HBO, STARZ, and Showtime offer internet only service now. Both HBO and STARZ have had lousy offerings for several months, however. Those services are also offered under the Amazon Prime channels section.
Redbox(?) tried to get into the streaming, but last time I checked, their offerings were rather lean.

We have a Roku and stream Amazon Prime and Netflix usually for free stuff. I use Amazon or Google to rent movies as well..
TCM, because classic movies are better movies.
Some of the original series are pretty good, though. I’m loving “The Crown.”

Apparently you don’t subscribe to both DVD and live streaming, or you’d be able to get the newer movie releases on DVD. I subscribe to both, and get one DVD at a time, which is more than enough for me since I also have cable TV. I like a lot of the foreign TV series Netflix offers, along with some of their own TV productions. I was just checking out the new shows/movies they’ve added, and saw that they’ve got five seasons of the UK series “Father Brown.” It’s a mystery series with a dash of comedy. I’ve already seen the first four seasons, but will watch the newest Season 5, which just recently aired in the UK. Hope you are able to find what you are looking for.
Netflix never advertised that they show “current” movies.
They do show current made for Netflix movies and recent Hollywood movies.

Current movies? You can always subscribe to cable and get HBO or Showtime and you should be able to get what you want. :-)
No free ride ... nor should there be.
We have a local theatre with reduced prices for movies that are not current but certainly not 10 years old. We use Netflix and amazon or even basic cable for the old stuff.
Used to be good, but I can’t get anything to load.
No smart TV here, just using a Samsung tablet to chromecast to the TV.
Any way to use Kodi here?

Just about anything new they put out in movies, tv, etc. these days is ALL crap anyway.
The only things worth watching now IS the old stuff.
