Jeter has said his "ultimate goal" is to own a baseball team
He's a New York icon, but Derek Jeter has apparently set his sights on a baseball future in Florida.
The Yankees great and former presidential candidate Jeb Bush have teamed up to bid for the Miami Marlins, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday.
Citing people familiar with the sale, the paper reported that the future Hall of Famer and the former Florida governor had combined their once-competing bids for the club. There are a number of other potential bidders and no guarantee the team will be sold.
Jeter has made no secret of his desire to own a baseball team, telling CNBC in 2016 that it is his "ultimate goal." And Bush comes from a baseball-loving family; his brother George owned the Texas Rangers before becoming president.
A deal could also potentially reunite Jeter with another Yankee icon, Marlins manager Don Mattingly.
The Yankees are due to retire Jeter's number and unveil a plaque in his honor in Monument Park next month.
I can see the scoreboard now, exhorting the fans to “Please Clap”.
Marlins = Low Energy
If Jeter thinks George spent money like it was water, wait till he sees Jeb! piss away $150 million before lunch with nothing to show for it.
LOL!
Jeb, the 1/2 Cuban, does not know Derek is Halfrican. (PS J Lo is Puerto Rican.)
Sorry Jeb.
Free guacamole bowl with every Marlin home run!
Is there a Sammy Sosa on the roster he can trade?
How did Jeb make enough money to buy a baseball team?
Marlins right fielder Ichiro hit a home run in a losing effort in Seattle today.
Where’s A-Rod?
That would be 43 year old Ichiro Suzuki, the second oldest active player. The oldest, Bartolo Colon is a starter for the Atlanta Braves.
Wasn’t Jeter last seen having a man crush on Obama at an exhibition game in Cuba?
That Mena Arkansas airport turns a sweet profit.
