The Browns are unofficially on the clock, but later today they will have the timer ticking down as they make their decision for the first overall pick. For weeks mock drafts have projected Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett to come off the board first, but recent reports are saying something else.
North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is gaining momentum as the player Cleveland will take first. The speculation started last week when Cleveland.com reported Trubisky is in "serious consideration by the Browns at No. 1." The report claims the team is scared the 49ers may take the QB at No. 2 if Cleveland goes Garrett.

The Browns did so well with their last Texas A&M pick...............
Based on their history, when it comes to QBs, we can be pretty confident the Browns will make the wrong decision.
I think Cleveland is making a mistake by not acquiring Garoppolo from New England.
I am a Patriots fan, and I am glad they appear to be holding on to him, which is good from an insurance perspective, even if they don’t get anything for him when he leaves.
But I think teams are missing out, particularly Cleveland.
Garoppolo isn’t Matt Cassel II, as people like to say. The eye test tells me that Garoppolo can play, and it says it differently from when I watched Cassel. Cassel was workmanlike in his play...I look at him the same way I look at Alex Smith with Kansas City, with less ability than Smith.
Garoppolo can play. Mark my words, he is going to be good when he leaves New England, as he surely will. I am glad he isn’t going to the Texans or even Cleveland...outside the conference is fine with me.
The draft is a gamble. Every gambler will tell you that sentimental bets are a killer.
Kessler was the fifth best quarterback in the league last year. With no center and a one man offensive line. They have improved greatly on the offensive line through free agency.
Take Garrett then O.J. Howard(if available) and play with the rest of the picks. Get some secondary help and trade for picks for next year. Next year is a much stronger draft. Especially for quarterbacks.
Our Cowboys needs to draft defensive players big time.
Picking Trubisky is much better than wasting a 1st round pick in a trade for the overrated and over hyped Garoppola, who’s only played in 3 games.
Garoppolo can play. If I were Jimmy, I would do my best to stay there content to hold the clipboard until Brady decides to hang it up. In what could become a seamless dynasty for some more years.
Yes, but glad they didn’t waste FA bucks, & great news on the injured LB who appears to be recovering, Jaylon Smith

Any idea where Clemsons Deshaun Watson will end up?
“Any idea where Clemsons Deshaun Watson will end up?”
If he’s lucky, not Cleveland.
If so, then the Browns should be getting Garropolo!!! He is a much better bet than any QB in this draft. It is always a gamble but at least Jimmy G has shown something as a (so briefly) starter in the NFL, and has been trained to a high level by Brady/Belichek.
You do ‘t wa t to hear me sing, watch me play golf, or “analyze” NCAA anything.
I saw the interview with him (might have been Jon Gruden?) and he did come off very well, smart.
I will say though, he should can the “I’m going to get six super bowl rings” stuff, because I don’t think it sounds right.
Get out there and win just one first!
Garoppolo isn’t over-hyped, in my opinion.
He can play, and as a New England fan, I have had the opportunity to watch every down he has played, and have seen him in practices as well. He has it. Very different from Cassel. With Cassel, we had to use him because he was the best option, but there is (and was) a clear difference in his play as compared to Garoppolo.
The guy can play...and I don’t say this at all from the perspective of wanting to get a high pick for him.
Let’s put it this way, I would be thrilled if there was any way he could stick around New England, but we know, barring either a precipitous drop-off in Brady’s capability or an unexpected severe injury, he won’t be here after this season.
He is going to get a payday, and I think he is going to live up to it.
Garoppolo’s big mistake, stemming from inexperience, is when he got injured earlier in the 2016 season, he didn’t know how to protect himself. I have always felt that is a learned experience, knowing how to fall or take a hit.
Granted, sometimes there is no getting out of an injury, but the players that are durable have figured it out to a degree, IMO.
Whoever gets him is going to get a good one. There aren’t any really good quarterbacks in this draft who would be a consensus #1 pick or even a “sure thing”, though there are some with potential.
The advantage they would have over Garoppolo, IMO, is their rookie contracts. When Garoppolo signs his next contract, it will be big.
If he gets traded, you get him with a year playing under his rookie contract which will pay him $820K this coming season.
I think the Browns are making a mistake not trading for him.
I read an article that said Cleveland’s owner is in deep financial trouble and needs to sell the Browns therefore he wants to draft a franchise quarterback to enhance the value of the franchise as opposed to drafting the smarter football decision in Garrett. As a Niners fan that realizes you can’t rebuild in one year I would rather have Garrett so I’m all in on Trubisky to the Browns!
