Harvey, Illinois. Shithole extraordinaire. Dixie Square Mall was open only 12 years and before it closed, some 10 people had been murdered in or near the mall. Even after the new police station for the city was built in one of the malls outlots.

Memphis once had a decent mall. The Mall of Memphis. It was great to go to for several years. Then the feral thugs showed up and the long decline ensued. There were several murders there giving it the nickname The Mall of Murder. It shut down a couple of years after the first few killings. It’s completely gone and a new building is going up in its place. I wish the owners more luck than the last owners of the space.

We go up 290 maybe once or twice a year ( not an extraordinary excursion by any means, but that's another story ... ) to go to the Rainforest Cafe with the GK's. Not sure how long this phase will last, but they love it.
I like Rainforest. It taps in to my inner child.

The only time I ever saw a movie in the building where the movie was filmed was when I was a teen and saw Valley girl in the mall where it was filmed.

I rarely go to malls any more, but I did visit the nearest one afternoon maybe a year ago.
I entered at one end through an anchor store, and once inside the mall proper, I noticed the noise level was far above normal, and it increased exponentially as I neared the center of the mall.
It turned out the store I wanted to use had closed, and that day was the grand opening of a new clothing store. Later research revealed that the new store was one that concentrated on “ghetto chic”.
They were playing something resembling music at ear splitting volume, and there was a group of “dancers” jumping around in front of the store, like something out of National Geographic. The reverberation from the “music” made it sound like a continuous screech that was actually painful.
Realizing that my trip was a waste, I retreated to the food court. What I found was that a large group of “teens” had assembled and was raising a ruckus of their own. I chose my table carefully with particular emphasis on an easy exit route in case that became necessary.
I used to go there regularly, but now I stay away if at all possible, and would NEVER go there after dark.
Big changes - lots of empty slots and lots of yawning clerks.
