Gross.
I always wanted my wife to crochet a big yarn plant hanger thingy I could put a round piece of glass in to hang my turntable from the ceiling.
Yamaha PX-3 weighs in around 25 pounds. Sorbothane is some awesome stuff. But magnetic levitation vibration isolation would be better.
The wear and tear on your vinyl records is worse than any vibration, isn’t it?
I used to go to great pains to isolate my turntable and record the very first play on a studio quality reel-to-reel.
I don’t know if it made a difference (much) but I could brag about it.
Right now I have a set of Bose 901’s I purchased USED on eBay for $400, and a CD player, and the sound is better than I ever dreamed of having back in 1975 to 1980 (when I lost interest).
I have my computer hooked up too, and one day when an antivirus message said “Warning, a virus has been detected” I nearly jumped 10 feet in the air because I was alone in the house and I thought someone was standing behind me saying that. (I forgot my stereo was even on)
A classic FReeper thread on being an audiophile, lol. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3222531/posts?page=8
Anything under the first 20 or 30 plays on properly setup gear should render very nice R2R. If they are buried in the basement you may think about cashing in, they may be reaching maturity. Todays hipster market loves stuff like that.
I have actually only wore out two records due to playing them. KISS - Destroyer and Deep Purple - Machine Head. (Original Black Sabbath - Parinoia may require an adult beverage). Very high sentimental value.
Mostly just trying to eliminate heavy footed relatives from my wrath during the holiday season when Im showing off to my neighbors.
Best of luck keeping it level, though...and the wiring from the cartridge down the arm might be affected. Probably would add significantly to the weight of the needle on the vinyl.
