‘Billions’ Might Be The Most Watchable Show On TV
UPROXX ^ | May 8, 2017 | Brian Grubb

The second season of Billions is in the books. Over 12 episodes, we saw casino deals go south, familial bonds stretched to their breaking points, and people violently vomiting up all-natural neon energy drinks. It was, to be clear, kind of a lot, and it all led to a pretty big moment for the show. Spoilers are a-comin’, obviously, so crack open an Ice Juice and buckle in. The time has come to talk Billions season two.

After two seasons of taking Ls of varying sizes and shapes, Chuck finally caught Axe red-handed and had him carted off to jail in front of the whole world. And all he had to do was ruin his father, bankrupt and embarrass his only friend, repeatedly alienate his wife, sit back and allow Axe to poison a half-dozen gambling addicts, strongarm the Attorney General, and blow through his entire $27 million dollar trust. If we’re using a cat and mouse analogy, this strategy was a little like the cat burning the house down and plucking the mouse out of the rubble. (The darkest episode of Tom & Jerry ever.) It drove home the point that the two of them are flip sides of the same coin — ruthless, risk-taking, self-destructive — and showed the lengths to which they will go to destroy each other. When Chuck says it was worth it, please consider the cost.

Where exactly does Billions go from here?

Beginning of Season 3 has a very depressed Chuck Rhoades watching TV on Election Night as Donald Trump wins the Presidency. A few scenes later, Chuck is fired by new AG Jeff Sessions.

It’s a good show. Chuck learns how to play the game. His dad was using him, his wife was already working for Axe.

I think I have this figured out. Chuck Rhoades is the insanely obsessed Captain Ahab and Bobby Axe is his White Whale.

Most watchable? Doubtful. It would have to be more watchable than I love Lucy, Burns and Allen, My Three Sons, Perry Mason, which can all be seen fifty years later.

"Better Call Saul" is more watchable but it is fun to watch how obsessed Chuck has become.... Chuck Rhoades, you have destroyed your friends, your father hates you, your wife cheated on you, you have drained your trust funds leaving you in poverty... What have you to say for yourself?

WORTH IT!!!

I haven’t seen any of this yet. Sounds like the real life I’m investigating.

“Better Call Saul” is not watchable for my eight year old (I assume there are numerous language and thematic issues rendering it unsuitable watching for a large segment of the family).

Holy cow! Paul Giamatti is in this? Now I’ll have to check it out.

New binge material.

“Better Call Saul” is starting to heat up now—with a little “family fun” with the cartel... :-)

I’ve never heard of it but from the description it sounds atrocious.

Start with season one, friend. This is one of the best shows on television.

Giamatti is gold in everything he’s in. Does not disappoint in this series either.

Yeah. I watched the first season and liked it. Had not watched the second, but if Axe is going to jail then I hate that. Chuck was obsessed with catching Axe but it went beyond the realistic and was very personal. Chuck was jealous of everything Axe had and worked for. Check was also a total pervert. Maybe I will pick it up next season when Axe gets out of jail and goes for total revenge and rebuilds his fortune ala Gordon Gekko in “Money Never Sleeps”.

Axe is already out of jail. Bailed out hours after being arrested but not before a jailhouse meeting with a highly deranged Chuck. Chuck destroyed his marriage, financially ruined his best friend and father, and drained his trust fund from $27 million to zero all just to score an arrest on Axe. And his attitude? “Worth it!”
