Qualities US PS could use; used to be these were the character building skills you learned from your parents, grandparents, scouting, etc.
American parents don't take the time; urban kids don't have a parent who can make a PB&J sandwich for their kids lunch...so lunch is provided via the government. The food is crummy quality, processed junk, brought in on warming trays, prepared & trucked from satellite facilities. If you saw the full trays of uneaten food thrown out in Hartford [CT] Public Schools, you would be outraged.
Rarely, I would have to get my grand daughter ready for school; I used a *Bento* box; since she's a picky eater, we'd gather the ingredients and pack a healthy lunch she could enjoy; yogurt, veggie sticks, fruit, cheese, etc. We made them colorful and fun.
“An American I know taught English at a Japanese high school in Japan for a year. He said that the students were very polite to the Japanese teachers, but were very rude to him, constantly rude.
For example, he told me that some students would turn on their radios in class. Then when he told them to put the radios away, they took their sweet old time.
My friend was black. Maybe that had something to do with it.”
Some public high schools , especially in Tokyo and other large cities , can be a bit rough at times . High School is not compulsory in Japan and there is a % of roughians / bad girls who stir up some trouble and probably don’t care if they expelled . My daughter is is a high school teacher in Japan and the problems she has with some kids are very minor compared to what goes on in US public schools .
I noticed the teacher left the classroom with the 5 or 6 kids who went to the kitchen to retrieve the lunch cart, leaving the remaining 30 kids unsupervised in the classroom. It was a cardinal rule in our district that at no time should the teacher leave the classroom unattended, whether elementary or high school. I had to flag down an adult in the hallway or call the office if I needed to step out of the room for any reason (such as to use the restroom) as fights would ensue.
Thank’s for posting your real-life experience.
Cuter than average, yes, but almost all school lunches prepared by mom WILL feature at least one or two flourishes like this.
That is a sign of an INVOLVED mother, a mom who knows almost everything about the daily life of her child, and while Japanese fertility is not high recently, the percent of such moms showing similar behaviors in Japan is SKY high.
"My son was turning his life around before dying in a gun battle, he was interested in music and he was a GOOD BOY":
SAID ZERO TIMES PER YEAR BY MOMS IN JAPAN.
Japanese paddies will be tended by ROBOTS before they will be tended by Mexicans, Japanese busses will be driven by ROBOTS before they're driven by men grabbing their crotch and filling each sentence with the "F" word.
Say what you will about refugee flow and multiculturalism:
Japan will ALWAYS be Japanese.
“Japan will ALWAYS be Japanese. “
2 thumbs up for your post .
We have a lot of Japanese immigrants or executives on temporary assignment in our area. Many have three kids. I think many move to America in order to have a larger family, with more room to grow.
But I think/hope they will be welcoming young adult Americans to Japan in the coming years, and they will intermarry and have kids. In our community, that has happened a bit.
I knew you lived in Japan, but you put your kids through their schools system too?
Please tell us all about it. What are their schools like? The teachers? The Curriculum? Are your kids Japanese or Americans living there? What do local kids think about Americans at their school?
:)
Currently, abortion is widely accepted in Japan. According to a 1998 survey, 79 percent of unmarried and 85 percent of married women approved of abortion. According to researchers at Osaka University in 2001, 341,588 legal abortions were carried out in Japan, a 2.5 percent increase from 1998 to 2001.
Does that answer your question?
What other experiences do you have living in Japan?
Pining Grace and Bikk too :D
Yes , to your question re: kid(s) through school in Japan . My daughter is a high school teacher . I could and maybe should write a book about my 31 years ( so far lol ) in Japan ; schools ; teachers ; etc...
They kill their own children and then import the savages that will become the army of the antichrist.
I think that would be fantastic Sushiman :D
You could even collect stories from other Freepers and other Americans living in Japan in say, a small paper back book.
Or a vanity here on FR to talk about your fellow Japanese FReepers.
A couple of books have been written that way here on Free Republic.
That’s a great job you did there!
My daughter taught in Japan (under the JET program) and it was an amazing, thoroughly rewarding experience. I don’t think she’d be caught dead teaching back here in the USA.
It reminds me of Studio Ghibli.
>>I could and maybe should write a book about my 31 years ( so far lol ) in Japan ...
I’ve thought about that too, but I’m too lazy at the moment and still partying too often to slow down. :)
