>>We have a lot of Japanese immigrants or executives on temporary assignment in our area.

You don’t happen to be near the NEC plant in Roseville by any chance...?

It’s pretty much like any other school as far as I could tell. Nothing much to see really.

BTW - I had side businesses inc. working rock band and importing/selling vintage drums , so with a “ double salary “ my wife was able to be a housewife/ fulltime at home mother ( which she preferred to be anyway ) . That had nothing but positive effects on our daughter and helped shape her into the fine young woman / teacher she has become . So proud of her .

A lot of schools will have language labs but a COMPUTER lab in a Japanese public school...?

On an earlier visit to Japan I got to tour A K-8 or K-9 school in a fairly small town on the island of Shikoku. They had a well-equipped science lab, a home ec room and a language lab. In fact when we were visiting all of the teachers were in the language lab evaluating the language teacher. The kids? They were working away in their rooms with no adult supervision at all. One was an art class where they were doing wood carving.

I taught junior high kids for 30 years. Everyone says they can’t control themselves because of “hormones”. But Japanse kids apparently can in spite of hormones.

My daughter-in-law is Japanese. Apparently there is huge peer pressure on moms to create the most attractive bentos they can. And the cute backpacks at the beginning of the video cost 100s of dollars and it is “expected” that it will be the same as the other kids’ backpacks.

They are made in Japan and will last the entire 6 years of elementary school and beyond . I went to Catholic School from 1958-1966 . We all had the same schoolbags , uniforms ...What’s the problem ?

What’s the problem ?

Absolutely no problem. The backpacks were obviously well-made and well thought out. One reason, in my opinion, that Japanese schools are better at teaching their kids is the culture pretty much requires a great deal of conformity and apparently gets it. My comment was meant to convey the sacrifice that Japanese parents are willing to make for their kids, in contrast to too many American parents who can’t be bothered to even feed their kids.
