How about FIVE hours a day like we used to do playing stick ball or street hockey or baseball or when we were younger cops and robbers or walking all over to get things for my aunt at the stores.

Today, if kids play or walk or ride their bicycles on the street unaccompanied by an adult, the police or Child Protective Services will be summoned and the parents will be in heap big trouble. I have even read of kids who got in trouble for playing, unsupervised by an adult, in their own back yards.

Better to sit your kid in front of a computer and have him play video games all day.

The poorest are now the most likely to be obese. Teens being only as active as 60 year olds makes me think we are actually a long way from any type of sustained civil unrest. Unless their entertainment addiction to social media/internet is interrupted.

Play till the street lights come on....then get your butt home. Seems everyone had the same rule. Big City living! Wish they'd design subdivisions with a basketball court and baseball diamond. Cheap and lasts forever....Enough with the Forever Wild...

and when we were old enough to drive play half court basketball using car headlights for illumination.

My 12 year old son has to be frog marched to the treadmill to get some form of exercise 3x/week and complains mightily the entire time.

When I was that age, I got my exercise by taking my dog for mile-long walks. But that was at a time when a Copper State solon who is beloved on this site was making a White House bid--and times are different, now.

"Wish they'd design subdivisions with a basketball court and baseball diamond."

In the little town where I live in each new subdivision the city puts in a small park with a baskeball hoop and playground equipment for children. Lots of grass and bike path. You rarely see anyone playing in them.

I don’t need those. It’s not just hit it, repeat as necessary!

Similar age and similar notation. I finished mowing last night about 2130 and got back at it in the shop about 0600, waiting out the heat of the day again though. That part, the heat, gets much harder to cope with in each passing year.
