Russias ambassador to Washington told his superiors in Moscow that he discussed campaign-related matters, including policy issues important to Moscow, with Jeff Sessions during the 2016 presidential race, contrary to public assertions by the embattled attorney general, according to current and former U.S. officials.
Ambassador Sergey Kislyaks accounts of two conversations with Sessions then a top foreign policy adviser to Republican candidate Donald Trump were intercepted by U.S. spy agencies, which monitor the communications of senior Russian officials both in the United States and in Russia. Sessions initially failed to disclose his contacts with Kislyak and then said that the meetings were not about the Trump campaign.
One U.S. official said that Sessions who testified that he has no recollection of an April encounter has provided misleading statements that are contradicted by other evidence. A former official said that the intelligence indicates that Sessions and Kislyak had substantive discussions on matters including Trumps positions on Russia-related issues and prospects for U.S.-Russia relations in a Trump administration.
Sessions has said repeatedly that he never discussed campaign-related issues with Russian officials and that it was only in his capacity as a U.S. senator that he met with Kislyak.
I never had meetings with Russian operatives or Russian intermediaries about the Trump campaign, Sessions said in March when he announced that he would recuse himself from matters relating to the FBI probe of Russian interference in the election and any connections to the Trump campaign.

Both are very plausible.
If true, why didn’t the Deep State release such info. before the election?
Our Intel community is in a state of treason
My response to the headline:
Not illegal or unethical. But illustrative of why Sessions recused himself.
I like Sessions, BUT too many screw-ups since he’s been A.G. with the biggest being Rosenstein IMO. I also think priorities are a tad screwed up.
The Democrats should be picking their bloodied, and bruised bodies up off the floor instead of sitting at the table demanding more Cognac, AND GETTING IT.
This Senate will not confirm a replacement for Sessions.
Or the Russian is lying.
Recess coming soon, so couldn’t Trump temporarily put up whoever he wanted to?
Trump should nominate Chris Christie or Rudy Giuliani. Those will be crazy confirmation hearings!
I think they both would shut this Mueller nonsense down. Sessions is weak and the democrats ate him alive. HORRIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT. He’s too much of a southern gentleman for this political environment.
But, but, but, it’s crazy to say that the Trump campaigned was wire-tapped..........
The intel honchos need to take kayaks to work each morning.
Some problems have self-liquidating using kayak therapy.
Or WAPO is lying, it wouldn’t be the first time. Just sayin’.
1. I would hope Trump didn’t do that. However, that’s a theory going around. I don’t see Trump doing it to be honest.
2. Possibility - The deep state and Obama holdovers decided they hate Jeff Sessions. That said, he was confirmed. They figured they were stuck with Sessions, but now they see an opportunity with Trump’s discussion with the NYT. They know Trump is unhappy but likely wouldn’t fire him without further cause, and they know Sessions won’t resign. Therefore, release this.
For my part, I don’t care if they talked about the future of U.S. foreign relations under a Trump Administration. That said, best to just disclose it.
This is the WaPo, so I will await further confirmation of this.
Is this an anonymous source? Why did this not come out earlier?
NEVER!!!! Neither of those are stand-up guys anymore.....ESPECIALLY Christie!! omg!! Trump has more sense than Christie SQUARED!
As Creepy Uncle Joe Biden once said, "This is a big ****ing deal!"
Hope Sessions hangs in there long enough to let Trump recess appoint his replacement.
They crossed over when they started arming Al Qaeda.
