The tomato soup sounds delicious. Is it really a full cup of butter/ oil?

My husband and I watch every sappy Christmas movie that comes out - but we do wait at least until November :-)

One that we really love and want to buy is almost never broadcast, and you can almost never find it on Amazon - it’s always out of stock:

I don’t know if this would change the flavor because I love the delicious flavor of the seeds, but what if you flash boiled the tomatoes, then peeled and seeded them first? And just used the “meaty part” which you could still strain for a bit before putting them in the pie.

And what if you put a layer of Parmesan on the bottom crust like sawdust before you layered in the chopped tomatoes?

Sounds delish. I’m not afraid of good fats. But I just wanted to be sure!

Sounds good. I was very sad during the December season in 2015 and those movies made me feel good when nothing else did.

I think very highly of Richard Thomas (John Boy) because once when I was alone at the baggage claim with a squirming toddler in my arms, he saw me struggling to get my luggage and came over to help me. He got all of my luggage and put it in a cart and made sure I was ok and then disappeared with his wife. No one seemed to recognize him and nobody really was paying attention to his good deed. It’s what you do when no one is watching that makes you a great person.

Thanks! I’ll try the flash boiling method. It shouldn’t affect the flavor-it’s not exactly a “Sally Fallon/Nourishing Traditions” friendly recipe but it’s so good. Mayo mixed with cheese, layered with tomatoes and jalepenos in a rich, buttery crust.

It’s very nice when you find a famous actor - or any other performer/artist - who never succumbed to the ‘persona’ and remained a real person :-)

I should be able to get two batches of salsa & hopefully have enough for one batch of just plain canned tomatoes. If I don’t have enough to go through the canning process, I’ll just freeze them. It’s rewarding when the garden starts producing, but it makes for some very busy days!

The tomato soup recipe looks really good - I need a food mill for some other recipes too & this gives me one more excuse to buy one.

Buy one that has a solid handle, not one of those with wire handles. Ours has the wire handle and it gets very tiring to use, and hurts your hand. We’ve always had to use a pot holder with it.

Other things being equal, we’ve found the ones with handles like this to be preferable:

I went to a local small store once and someone had left a whole grocery cart full of zucchini just outside the door with a sign marked FREE

Maybe set them on paper towels for awhile?

Very interesting. I like your choice of words - appalling mauve color, etc, lol.

Unfortunately I’ll have tons of San Marzanos - you don’t think they’d work with this then ;(

Completely unrelated to the thread but I saw your screen name and it occurred to me that you were thinking of packing a picnic and going up on the Blue Ridge Parkway for the rhododendron and flame azalea bloom, did you make it? If so how was it? I’ve always thought it was a beautiful time of year up there, not nearly as crowded as fall color, so long as you manage to avoid rain or a thunderstorm. Thunderstorms and mountain tops don’t mix, not for people they don’t.

Coincidentally, I’ve been dreaming about tomato soup. Someone had posted on last year that happened to include a bunch of herbs and spices which happened to be included in 3 different flavored cans of tomatoes in the pantry. Dumped them all into a pot and yum!

Sadly, I’ve had to give up the garden.

Yuck, I don’t know what they did to Bisquick but that stuff is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too salty. Adding half again as much flour to the mix it was still disgusting. Ended up throwing the last box out and I do NOT throw food out.
