Doggone right it should! However, the higher education lobby is powerful and will not like it.
shortly after I graduates college was when I realized that if had been as smart as I thought I was, I wouldn't have gone to college in the first place.
It still is valuable..it’s should however be valued more than it is.
I am of the opinion that completion of a 2 year trade school or 2 years of active duty military service should be required for acceptance into a 4 year university.
Remember, Our Lord and His disciples were apprentices during boyhood.
In 1983 I went to a tech school for ten months, learning COBOL and IMS four nights a week. It became a six figure programming job by the middle of the 90’s.
The course cost ~$2,300.
This is the way it should be. And no, I have no degree.

I am a pharmacist (retired now) and although it is a degreed profession it is a trade. I possessed a skill that was valuable and people would pay me for my skill. That is what a trade is and it should be paid well.
I think my plumber makes more money than me. I can not fix all problems with plumbing. He had a valuable skill, and I paid him for his skill.
University is no longer a virtuous destination for our kids, neither intellectually, academically, nor even physically at this time.
To assume differently is presumption.
The trades must be revived.
Learning a trade should be as valuable as the market prices it, in a cash sense. And we should stop subsidizing higher education. Period.
That most college students don’t graduate suggests that we now have about twice as many young people going to college as should. And the majority of those going to college can do just fine going to a community college or studying online if they can’t afford four or more years of living on an indoctrination campus.
And most of our current indoctrination campuses ought to be converted for the elderly housing that our aging population will need. Or simply co-housing, if that’s what the market determines.
Just stop with the stupid federal subsidies—everything else will work out fine!

12 years ago I had to have the plumbing in my house replaced due to a burst pipe in the foundation. I helped out the plumber to get the job done faster and at a big discount.
When the job was nearly finished, he offered me $100 an hour to be his apprentice (It was in an upscale rural resort community where skilled trades people and reliable employees are exceedingly rare, so I can’t say whether an apprentice plumber could make correspondingly high income in other places).
I learned two trades during my time in the Marine Corps that landed me the dream job I have now. I was a 3521, Motor Transport Mechanic and a 6492 Aviation Calibration Technician. My abilities as a mechanic and electronics tech have made me very good money since I retired from active duty in 2007.
But then people would have well-paying work, and they wouldn’t be dependent on “progressive” politicians.
This is why you can make a six figure income shoeing horses now...
I am calling BS.
LOTS of work for their to TX right behind the receeding waters. Will doubtless pull pull in workers and bid up their wages nationwide. But lest we celebrate that too much we need to remember our Bastiat. Their forthcoming boom is the flip side of a huge “broken window” and we would have been better off without both and instead spending these funds on something else.

It happened. I was as shocked as you are to be offered something like that, but it happened nonetheless.
