Word For The Day, Thursday, April 30, 2015--
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
concatenation [kon-kat-n-ey-shuh]
noun
a series of interconnected or interdependent things or events.
We made it troug Irma. Tey eye went directly over us for about an hour. Lots of wind, lots of trees down, no structural damage to speak of, lots of power outages. We ave power ere. By the time it arrived it was a cat 2. We rode it out. Just got back on line. Here’s WFTD and seems apropos of something or other.
I just concatenated my girl friend.
Speaking with a writer many years ago...said to write like you speak so people understand you. Would never consider using this word.
When I worked in HR and was calculating models for annual raisers for management, I would concatenate text and values/formulas in cells to be able to merge into personalized Word documents.
The concatenation of the Capitol Hill and Deep State cartels is very convoluted.
How, precisely, did you do that? We need details, with pics, if possible.
?? Why is the word unuseabe by a speech writer? I use the word in my speech all the time. Okay, sometimes. Okay, I used it once about 50 years ago when I first learned it. Curious.
OK. You lost me at - all of it. You did what? How? With whom?
I think cancatenation by its very nature is convoluted. You have delineated aA perfect illustration of chaos at work.
glad to hear it Louis!!!
that may be true, but don’t you enjoy reading words and knowing what they mean? this thread isn’t just to learn to use new words when speaking, but to become overall more literate. the genesis of WFTD back about 16 plus years ago, was a love of language and words, spoken, or written.
I think it’s good to elevate ones level of speech. I use words like this all the time. when my youngest daughter (now age 23) was in Kindergarten, she had wild curly hair. she told her teacher “my mom said my hair was an abomination today!” the teacher LOLed.
x = "The quick brown fox"
y = " jumped over the lazy dog."
z = x & y
print z
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
Now that's concatenation!
When you concatenate cells in Excel, you combine only the contents of those cells. In other words, concatenation in Excel is the process of joining two or more values together. This method is often used to combine a few pieces of text that reside in different cells (technically, these are called text strings or simply strings) or insert a formula-calculated value in the middle of some text.
That’s Basic.
As hurricanes battered our nation
Liberals cried: “Concatenation!
All the wind, rain and storming
Comes from more global warming”
Al Gore took a fake standing ovation
I work with technical documents, and I concatenate that stuff all day long.
I use Adobe. All it means is to affix 2 or more documents together into 1.
For the record I have never concatenated an ex girlfriend. I think that’s a felony.
I ‘C’ what you did there
BEE YOU TEA FULL
