[[Luckily, I’ve always been stronger than anything life can throw at me. ]]

Wait till you get your first kidney stone- you’ll be dropped by something smaller than a grain of rice lol (I pass about 60 per year- most go through with no issues- about 5% or so cause severe pain- throwing up blacking out, blubbering like a baby pain-

A Citroën DS. The brake pedal was like this little mushroom thing, many of the controls were pneumatic so there were soft hisses and sighs. Weird, yes, but I love those things. The most comfortable car I've ever been in, bar none.

You haven’t lived until you have owned and driven a “Guam Bomb”.

During Vietnam a lot of SAC B-52 crews were based on Guam and flew missions all over SEA. To get around on the island they bought cars through the Exchange. At first no problems with anything then the island weather and humidity took over. Floors, powered windows, trunks were along the first to go. Then various electrical accessories including lights went bad.

Drove one in early 1973. When I came through again two years later it was still there, more or less. When I left in late 1975 I left the keys on the front seat, where I found them, for the next user. It got me where I wanted to go fairly often.

Sorry to hear about your kidney stones.

I’ve had a lifetime full of cluster-migraine attacks, AKA cluster headache. When it comes to pain, I know real pain. On a scale of 1-10 it’s a 13.

Ah, you are speaking my language. I have long had a soft spot for the DS 19.

“I pass about 60 per year”

There’s nothing they can do for you?

knew a girl who had migraines- saw her in absolute misery many times- so yep- that pain compares to kidney stones for sure- I’ve only had a very bad headache once in my life- after spending all day in sun- was so bad the drive back home was scary- couldn’t see straight- head was throbbin- eyes bleary- threw up from it- repeatedly- was some glad when it passed- I got only just a tiny taste of the pain of migraines- and that was enough for me- I’ll take the kidney stones I think- I don’t do well with headaches- let alone the pain that would come from migraines if i got them

To me the ideal is a DS21. It has the revised front fascia with faired-in headlights behind aerodynamic glass, more creature comforts and more mechanically advanced as far as the engine, but still with the old-style dashboard and interior. The really top of the line model is the DS Pallas, that leather is something else. And some are equipped with a full array of Jaeger gauges instead of the horizontal speedometer and warning lights, now that’s the pretty one and I’ll own one someday. Black with tabac leather.

I agree with you on all points, and the DS Pallas is also a car that I would love to own.

My brother had a Simca that we had to push down the hill to get started—circa 1970.

It was a 1958 Thames van imported from England. A fairly roomy bus with a tiny engine.
IIRC this van was imported a year or so before the VW microbus hit the streets here.

When I was in college, a professor had a Messerschmitt 3 wheel car. The oddest thing about it was an actual ME 109 canopy hinged on it as the top.

In 1967 I was a Sophomore in college (soon to become an enlisted member of the US Army) and I bought my first car of my very own.

It was a 1956 Cadillac Series 62 4-Door Sedan DeVille.

In terms of functionality, it was just what a young man needed. Roomy, comfortable, dependable and a cavernous back seat.

It did have one quirky feature.
It was covered in Gray Velvetex.

Yes - my car was "furry."

During the intervening years, I have been met with general skepticism and outright disbelief when I have described this car.

But I note with some satisfaction that what goes around comes around and what was old is now new again.

Quod Erat Demonstrandum...

I’ve got a medical condition that they had to do a certain surgery for that apparently results in more kidney stones- I have learned though that eating salty snacks was causing so more per year- I don’t get so many fully formed stones anymore- (prolly about 20 now) but loads of what i call ‘sand’ in the urine- stuff that doesn’t form together to form the stone- I think the salt was causing the sand to form stones more often- There is a medication- but it can cause bleeding I guess- and with bleeding ulcers- I opted not to go that route- had a very close call with bleeding before (A med i was on caused the issue)- so am careful what i take now-

I also make sure now to drink plenty of water- that helps pass them through easier- and like i said0- only about 5% hurt bad- so with about 20 per year now that’s just about only 1 bad one per year- most are just mildly to moderately painful- not too unbearable

For comparison, migraines are like Ford Rangers trucks. Cluster headache is a whole different deal and much, much worse than a migraine. If migraines are Ford rangers then Clusters are high-balling freight trains of pain. And they’re basically endless when you are in a cluster time period.

I’ve read that cluster headaches have caused more people to commit suicide than any other type of pain and I completely believe that, having had a lifetime full of them.
